When I click on the “Show unread posts since last visit.” link I often get an empty list or maybe one or two messages, but if I browse the forums manually I can see that there are many posts that are new. What’s the trick to getting that link to work?? It used to be working much better, but it seems that gradually it has lost track of what is new.
I have the same problem too.
It’s not broken, it shows what’s new since your last visit.
If you want to see everything you haven’t read yet, at the end
of the list you’ll see a link to All Unread Topic.
This new feature is not very useful, because 99% of the time
you want to see everything you missed, not what you missed
since your last visit… :-\
Well I say it IS broken, since I posted the first message in this list on my “last visit” (last night) and this thread was not included in the “new messages since your last visit” when I checked this morning.
Also, I see no link at all to “All Unread topics”… what “list” do I find that link in?
You can find it at the right-bottom of the page, above “mark as read”
Have you tried logging out? If not you may stay logged in for quite a while, and that might be what is used as “last visit”.
Ah… but you see it often does show SOME messages as new… but only a tiny amount of the actual new messages.
When it is working that view seems to update frequently… things are removed from it if you read them during your current visit, and I have seen messages appear there if I stay logged in for an hour or so.
There is just something funny about it.

There is no link above the “mark as read” button on any page I’ve visited.
Interesting! No, I don’t get that link anywhere. Perhaps there is some setting in the user prefs that affects it.

Ah, yes I DO get that one. Of course it seems as if it would only show up if no posts since my last visit are shown. Typically I do get some small subset of the new posts listed when I check the “since last visit” link. I guess if I read all of them that link will eventually show up.
I love the feature, I’ve been using it since the new forum was installed. Of course, the first time you use it you have 500+ pages, but I just hit “mark as read” because I didnt care to read 2yr old messages.
Now once or twice a day I check that link, go through the list and open interesting links in a new tab, click mark as read, and read whatever I opened in the tabs… it’s pretty handy.
Just to fill you all in on the mysterious “All Unread…” link, that I and others didn’t see before. It is there, but it only appears on the “Show unread posts since last visit” page. I was looking for it everywhere else, since I had already determined that that page wasn’t doing what I wanted.
It would be nice to get that link in the header or something, so we can get to it with one click instead of two.
