Are there any UK Game Conferences that are open to the public?
Also, does Sun have any presence in the UK in relation to gaming or entertainment?

GDC-Europe, of course 
although CMP is NOT GOOD at advertising it, and seems almost deliberately to be keeping it small (and yet expensive at the same time).
ECTS is halfway between E3 and GDC, and although “trade only” I’ve never been asked for proof, and I’ve seen 14 yr olds wandering around the trade floor. And it’s free.

Probably the lead developers. 
Its not quite the same thing (and you might already know of it), but their might be an IGDA meet in your area.
