Excellent man …
Development and testing crawls forward slowly. New features:
- Game ends when certain criterias are met. If all players (alive) tick the “Peace talk” checkbox for instance. Then scores are calculated and player ranks updated.
- If you tell the server, it will email you upon some game events. You only have to log in when there is something to do.
- Air units. This is still experimental, but I just bombed the shit out of Paris when I played the French map. It worked good.
- All player start with 5 credits. A credit is used when you start a game (but not when you join). But right now I make everyone into a subscriber so it doesn’t matter that much.
On the todo list:
- Make air units feature complete.
- Rework the client, making it user friendly and able to scroll and zoom maps.
I’ve moved the server (the software) to a virtual private server instead of having it in my house. Much better bandwidth and hopefully stability.
I’m very busy writing a brand new client (most code under the hood is old though). After that I will write all code that manages air units, then naval, then the internal mail. After that it will be christmas and I will move into beta.
Looks cool, but the window was so big that it was placed behind my menu bar at the top, making it impossible to read. I’m on Mac OS X.
I know, I have some code to look for mac os x, placing the window somewhat lower. But it doesn’t work.
But, you don’t miss much. Half of the buttons are visible
In order: “New game”, “Admin games”, “Join game”.
fixed…
Also fixed an issue with custom flags slowing everything down.
My homepage has been hacked. Probably a Joomla security hole. My old site is gone.
Jeez, that sucks! I hate hackers.
Yeah… he left a telephone number beginning with +96… probably wanted money to restore everything.
Little did he know that he attacked my old site. The new one will be up soon, I hope.
err, in some parts of the world, ‘extortion’ is still a crime.
ps: shouldn’t your host be helping you recover your site?
Of course it is a crime. Even breaking in to it in the first place. But I think it would be pointless to try and do something about it. He is a muslim in syria, I’m in sweden. If anything, I only want to forget about it and have my new site up.
I haven’t had the time to do anything about it yet. Will try and take care of it during the weekend.
Well then you can draw a really bad stick figure caricature of Muhammad to piss him off. Just keep emailing him more until he gives in.
Hehe… I think I want to keep my other sites.
The new client is out:

The first was but a prototype. This is the real stuff.
Synth LF
It’s all swing (apart from the map of course). I have designed the Look and feel myself (using synth). Synth is a great idea, but with lots of oddness and almost zero documentation. I really hope sun fixes this in the future. Lots of stuff that worked great on jdk 5 didn’t work when I tested it with jdk 6. I have my own custom painter. A lot of methods only draw white backgrounds in text boxes.
I know that on my mac, synth doesn’t work very good. Therefore, in settings, you can choose what look and feel you want to use.
I did a test play again the creator I had some trouble to start(because I was joining as spectator, loosing focus when returning to chat,…)
But after a while I figured it out:
There is no big end turn button you have to click ready
Max allowed units is 4(so all is not lost when you can’t create any units anymore)
The game is fullscreen so all attention goes into the game which is good no distractions.
The gui in the fullscreen window does need work, overlapping Panels, every repaint the chatbox changes position(from left to right) and defaults to somewhere in the middle of the scrollArea (which is very annoying)
After that It was cool to move or should i say attack around, build new units, etc. promising game I will certainly return for another game.
Btw I have to say registration went very smooth.
Thanks for playing Stef!
We usually only play slow games. This game with stef was the first fast game for me. This exposed some bugs. The gui needs some more work (no surprise there)…
