Torque Game Engine - Converting it to Java

Okay - I have a question about converting the Torque Game Engine to JAVA.

Currently the engine is a framework right? I can drag and drop what I please and code in what an item does etc. Would it be plausible to code the engine in Java and it be a framework to design Java games in?

If so would is it also be possible to make java game applets out of this?

If not what do you recommend I do with the source code that I do have? I mean I do want to use the source code. AFTER all I spent the money on it…

A lot of what Torque does you can more or less get for free in Java already though, or in its various free extra libraries. It’s probably not worth you bothering.

You could look at Unity as well, as that has a web player plugin that’s becoming quite popular. Downside is that the builder app is Mac only.

Trying to port Torque to Java sounds like a recipe for pain to me :frowning:

And that is the downside because…?

Not many people have discovered the Joy of Macs

it seems many java developers are quite frustrated with mac and apple (No sign of Java 6, broken Java 5, no java ‘ball & chain’ on iPhone, lack of proper communication with developers from apple). I don’t have a mac myself but these stories about them are getting louder and louder.

What’s up with Java 5 on Macs?
And what’s this ball and chain of which you speak?

Like I said I don’t have a Mac myself, but this is not the only vocal complaint about java 5 on mac.

About the ‘ball and chain’ thing:
Steve Jobs (talking about iPhone): “Java’s not worth building in. Nobody uses Java anymore. It’s this big heavyweight ball and chain.”

Erk.
