The (old) purpose of this forum

I’ll not influence anyone’s decisions by making any opening comments, but will simply explain the question:

This forum is run by us, the moderators, for you, the users. So, with that in mind, what job postings do you want to see here? Are you only interested in Java, or in other languages? Maybe in skillsets not related to actual game programming? What about non-game-related programming jobs?

Please check all of the above you’d like to see, and feel free to whinge if I’ve missed something important out.

I’m basically interested in seeing any positions that are related to software development. What would be really cool is to only allow people who are full members (i.e. 100 posts or whatever it is) to post jobs. Anyone who didn’t have a full-membership would have to appeal to the mods or another full-member before they could post a position.

God bless,
-Toby Reyelts

Probably wouldn’t work out too well though. An appeal gets lost or forgotten by a mod etc. Not that we have an abundance of great jobs being offered, but this limits it more. I think just allowing mods to delete anything deemed innappropriate, spammish or offtopic is fine.

Bill

does the polls distribution treats everyone the same? does the one or two post recruiter get the same weight as long time members?

Everyone gets an equal voice. If anyone wishes to make a stronger case for one of the above options than just checking a few boxes, please include it in a comment.
Java game development 29 (35.3%)
Non-Java game development 13 (15.8%)
Game related (testing, art etc) 21 (25.6%)
Java non-game development (J2EE etc) 11 (13.4%)
Any development, any language 3 (3.6%)
Lucrative ruminant administration positions 2 (2.4%)
No opinion (but I still want to see the results!) 3 (3.6%)
Okay, so that’s Java game development and game-related jobs, with a secondary interest in general game development and general Java development.

Thanks to all who took part in this vote!

I intend to lock any current postings that fall outside this purview, delete any new non-conformant posts, and query any borderline/unclear cases before acting. Does anyone have any objections to this policy?

Seems good to me. Nice to see some controlled moderation

Kev

My vote goes to “anything IT related”.

I don’t think it has to be games-only, though certainly I can see that the bulk will be games related (being that this is what we like). But, as an IT professional, I’m interested in any IT oppertunities that arise, be they Games, Java or something else. At 5 new threads per month, I don’t see the need for too much filtering.

Will.
