The Legend of Mary

Hey guys, I completely forgot about this website (damn uni). Anyways, I worked on this lovely game during the mid-sem break for the gfs 21st  [took me 2-3 weeks]

And I hope you all enjoy it as much as she did.

p.s. the game ludology and naratology is based around her life so if you don’t get it, I’m sorry :stuck_out_tongue:

ENJOY!!

The door at the end of the second level is locked. Why?

Pretty cool game for just 2 weeks!
clap BRAVO! clap clap
Just one bug that ‘bugged’ me. When you jump and are blocked by a block above you, you just stick to the top until you would have fallen had you not been blocked. Can you fix that?

@Drenius, the door is locked because you forgot to collect all the pills in the level. One must not leave the house until she has taken her epilepsy meds.

@Wesley, you are right I do remember thinking that during the development of the jump feature but ignored it because I found myself putting a lot of time implementing that. Apparently jumping in 2d side scrollers is a little tricky… but yes I could fix that.

Friends didn’t like how there weren’t any lives but it’s part of the game. It’s meant to give it that retro style feeling where games are hard and if you mess up you have to restart (battle toads was therefore mentioned as a result haha)

Just a little thing, with the jumping in my 2d scrolling games I often have a ‘y’ position, ‘y acceleration’ and also a global gravity. Essentially on each update apply gravity to the ‘y acceleration’ (e.g. ya+=gravity), then on updates with the jump button pressed set y acceleration to a set value (e.g. ya = -4). Then if collision vertically ya = 0. This will mean that it will then start to fall. Hope this helps.
