I’m intersted in the future of Java. If Java doesn’t have a future who would then be interested in using it now?
To start it off I would like to reply to a post in another thread.
I could add a few things. Hardware is going the Java way. The inherent concurrency of Java which may have been a bottleneck on single processor systems may turn out to be a real advantage now when more and more desktops get dual core processing.
Also Java’s emulation of native GUI’s may very well turn out to be a great advantage for Java. The reason is that with more advanced graphics hardware the GUI emulation can be performed by the graphics processor rather than by the main processor, freeing it up for other chores. In principle Swing could put less pressure on the main processor than will a native GUI.
I shan’t make a rude comment :-* but… the substrate of the argument is somewhat off topic for us game developer types. Swing’s not really our cup of tea, although some kinds of game development benefit greatly from it.
