Survery of Teenagers who play games

A survery from late 2008 about teenagers and their game playing habits. Apparently Guitar Hero and Solitaire are in the top 5? Those are the worst games I’ve ever played!

[quote]Fully 97% of teens ages 12-17 play computer, web, portable, or console games. Additionally:

* 50% of teens played games “yesterday.”
* 86% of teens play on a console like the Xbox, PlayStation, or Wii.
* 73% play games on a desktop or a laptop computer.
* 60% use a portable gaming device like a Sony PlayStation Portable, a Nintendo DS, or a Game Boy.
* 48% use a cell phone or handheld organizer to play games.

But Guitar Hero’s structure is quite good for social gaming, and Solitaire is probably installed on school computers. More interesting is the failure to mention either RuneScape or FarmVille.

Hmm good point about solitaire, forgot about how it’s often the only game you can possibly play on some guest-account stock windows computers.

Yeah Runescape’s wiki page says it has “approximately 10 million active accounts, and is recognised by the Guinness World Records as the world’s most popular free MMORPG”. Maybe it’s got more of a european rather than american audience?

I believe RuneScape’s audience is predominantly US-based (or was when I worked for Jagex, anyway), and it certainly has more servers in the US than Europe.
