So I just had a really odd thing happen , I started using my computer and it was lagging horrendously , disk usage at 100% so I checked online and found that superfetch can sometimes do this , so I stopped the process sure enough that was the cause . Just two things what is superfetch used for and well is it important if I keep it off and how do I fix it.
one of the things which i disable first after install. it’s crap. … ment to boost boot-time. look for the “superfetch” service.
also, when you run windows on a SSD, superfetch will rather use up and destroy your HD (since it’s reading and writing all the time)

I honestly dont know what was actually causing it , I think windows became corrupted in some area because any time I tried to save anything it just used up all the disk and crashed so I updated windows and nothing like it since.

There can be bugs in any software. If there weren’t any bugs in Windows, there wouldn’t be any viruses, for example.

EDIT: Interesting. I just noticed I’m between the most self-conscious members. I highly doubt that I’m more self-conscious than that many members, most of the other members aren’t just showing it that much. That’s my opinion, at least.

It is indeed sometimes difficult to recognize sarcasm on the Internet. Most of the time when people say really unintelligent things it is sarcasm though, but there are of course cases where people really are that ignorant, so it’s not always black and white.

Superfetch is a function which analyzes your file usage and prefetches the files you most commonly use into RAM when Windows is started. The idea is that it trades some time when the computer is booted up to get better average performance over time. Pretty sure this isn’t true, since it doesn’t write anything. Besides, SSDs can be written to so many times that you’re very unlikely to wear them out in less than 5 years, at which point newer 4x faster and bigger SSDs are available for the same price. I’m using a Kingston SSD as a cache drive for my 4TB mechanical harddrive, and my programs estimate that at the current rate the SSD is written to it will remain within specifications until 2022, and it’s been in use for almost 2 years now. This is just a 120GB SSD as well, so a 250GB SSD will have twice as many writes as mine, a 500GB SSD 4x as many writes, etc…
TL;DR: stop worrying and enjoy the performance. You’re staring at a cake and refusing to eat it because if you eat it at a normal pace you may run out of it in 8 years.
