Suggestions for improving the site

Well, it’s been a rough road, but the admins have been good to us!

I would like to start a thread on possible improvements to the site navigation and such. Hopefully SG and company will be amenable to the suggesions here.

I’d like to start:

There should be a link BACK from the forums to games.dev.java.net

The reason is that many have already linked the forums as the destination for java-gaming.org from before, as well as links people pass to each other that reference articles. It would be good to get back to the main site from here. Either the top banner in blue, or the “A Java.Net Community” tag line above would be good candidates.

I just finsihed saying hte same thing in another thread… I agree that we should work towards blending the two sites together… so they share a common look and feel, and the other resources we have a java.net (Wiki, Projects…) are readily accessible from here.

I’m guessing this will come as time allows and the technical bits are sorted out.

Already in discussion here guys

Don’t forget the idea about getting an IRC server, or a chat with an IRC-backend.

An IRC server would come in really handy now that some projects are going open source. Holding an IRC session now and then would be a good way to coordinate the projects with both outside developers and folks at Sun.

I know you guys are going on a well-deserved vacation now, but I think it getting a public roadmap for further development should be a priority when you get back. If you want to use outside developers in your development plans, then I think it would help to let them in on the planning process through IRC sessions.

Even a roadmap that just states what you Sun folks plan to do would be useful to avoid duplicate efforts. Doug has already mentioned that you plan to implement animation, physics etc., but we really need more detailed information than that so we know if you plan to develop that functionality as modules for a scenegraph architecture or not and if so, what kind of scenegraph architecture.

Again, enjoy your vacations, but please don’t forget about the chat server.
