Stop the incescent bickering...

Any chance we could stop the incescent bickering between supporting the various technologies that provide similar or the same functionality? It’s all very nice to be behind a particular library or whatever, but it’s really crap to read thread after thread derailed by the need for one zealot or another to pimp their particular point of view or blindly favored library - worse still when it gets heated or goes off track into a completing java gaming unrelated topic. I’m sure I’m as guilty as the next poster, but I’ll try to keep it in mind if you do.

Cheers,

Kev

…but… it’s fun!

Cas

Fun, but counter productive.

Kev

Yeah, you’re totally right.
JOGL suck! Don’t use it, use LWJGL instead! ; - )

In general i agree. Just because you don’t support a particular library doesn’t mean you should hesitate towards helping out with another.
Besides you stand a much better change of hijacking people from the other side if you seem friendly rather than reserved.
That being said i think it is fair to advertise that you prefer another library, as long as it doesn’t harm others.

But really JavaGaming.org is far from the worst community i’ve met, so i think we’re doing ok actually.

[Offtopic]
On that note i’ve tried to get help with JOGL online using IRC a couple of times but with little luck.
If we don’t have a IRC chat for JavaGaming.org, i’d strongly suggest one. Otherwise i’d like to know where it is, so i can join

Well, the important thing is we don’t point fingers.

gouessej.

Also… LWJGL 4 life, JavaFX 4 life, C# 4 life, etc.

gouessej is famously inflammatory  But I find that sort of fun too.

Cas

And while we are at it - stop user bashing :-*

Noted. :persecutioncomplex:

Yeah, let’s get back to Sun / Java bashing. The hand that feeds me has never tasted so good!

Cas

Lol. I think that I’m too tired to get angry.

Maybe you are. I don’t remember who said my main game is a piece of shit with OpenGL underneath, I should sleep more. I’m a bit blunt but I’m really happy to see more and more Java games.

The irony is, that if you search for “piece of shit” (which has surprisingly few hits), only you, gouessej, seem to mention it in the context of your game.

Feel free to prove me wrong

Yeah, I think that’s true, but I think it’s managed to stay that way because people have the balls to stand up and tell people to stop being idiots when they’re acting like them. The cost of freedom is constant vigilance.

Kev

assuming i haven’t yet bashed someone, do I still have one free?

[sticks head in the room]

Hey all! What’s going on?

CRACK

OW! MY HEAD! Who approved the use of bats in here?!?!?!

CCAAAAAASSSSS!!!

I used this expression to criticize some detractors of my project after one of them used it against me. This is called humour and maybe self-derision.

lol the Internet is a funny place

ORLY?!?!?!?!?!1!!!?!?!1!1!!one!!?!?

He was saying that if you search for that wording nobody has ever used it except you.

I understand what he said but I remember someone else used these terms about my game or something very close. It is one o’clock in France, then my neurons are not very competitive.

Yes, but his point was that there’s no proof that anybody ever did use that (or a similar statement) against you. I have personally never once seen anyone say anything so detracting about anyone’s work on this site. I’ve seen a few people being gruff to newbies asking stupid questions, but in games showcase people have always been supportive, or haven’t said anything at all.

If someone did say something along those lines, therefore, I think it’s logical to assume that the reason for the comment was based on context… something you said first, perhaps? I know that I’ve seen you build up TUER in a few posts as if it is some grand achievement and better than most other peoples’ work. And you can certainly call it a grand achievement, because it is. But everyone’s work is, and if start propping it up like it’s better than some other stuff or you make comparisons to other work, then you’re inviting people to make comparisons to yours.
