Looks very nice, looking forward to a playable version.
I haven’t tried it yet but it seems good. Could you elaborate on the features the editor has? Why a game developper would like to use this editor instead of using another one or just building one from scratch (for a specific game)?
And finally, what’s your main interest in creating that tool? Do you have commercial goals? Is it open source? Just for fun?
Thanks
Wow! It is a really rich and powerful tool! It’s too bad I can’t use it righ now since I’m too far in the progress of my current game. Congratulations anyway. I’m sure you will find many developpers using it. Don’t forget that retro games style is strongly coming back for a specific market.
It looks great so far, Eliwood. I was going to write a game maker one day (not Platform specific, but it would have support for creating a platform game). It was going to be based on Game Maker (http://www.gamemaker.nl) which is written in Delphi though mine would be in Java, of course. Anywho, looks great and keep up the good work.
Thanks for your comments. I’ve made a lot of progress in these past few months though I’ll need a few more to bring this to a playable state. For now, enjoy a few updated screenshots.

Impressive!
I am still working hard at this. Check my original post, which is now updated with new screenshots and information.
Thanks for your continued support.
That looks awesome :o !!! I didn’t even know that you can make that GUI using swing … :).Congratulations !
I teased around and showed this screenshot to my testers. It’s real, and a lot of you will recognize it as the New Super Mario Bros.

About the project itself… there’s been lots of progress under the hood, but nothing I can really show in a screenshot right now.
Looking great ;D
How are you planning to distribute games? I am aware you have your Stencyl Client - How is that one distributed to clients? Java Applet, Download, Webstart? Also, do you plan to release games on consoles such as Nintendo, Playstation and XBox?
Distribution of the whole system will primarily be through download because there’s the Client, the Game Builder, full documentation and all of that. It’ll even auto detect whether you have the appropriate version of Java installed and download that if necessary. I might explore WebStart as an option for people who only care about playing games (so just the Client alone) if the demand is there, but yah, download is appropriate for this.
In terms of other platforms, I might explore the option of porting this to J2ME far, far down the road. It’d be quite cool to bring this on the go.
Had some finals to take care of, but here’s a little treat to show the progress off. It’s nothing much graphically, but I did finish off an interpreter for the Trigger system’s scripting language, which is a variant of Scheme (and separate from the scripting language used for the Kits). You will see what stuff that enables in a few weeks. For now, just some old Mario stuff.
[Removed - See site for the latest media.]
Got any more videos? Maybe some other games, or a run-through of how easy it is to start up a basic game design session and see a running product?
Everything looks great so far, backgrounds translate nicely, collision seems solid, jumping has some gravity to it, doesn’t look cheap. Hope the editor is as good as you say it is :).
Oh and I must really complement you on the website too. I’m not sure if you made it but it looks excellent, very professional. Should be very helpful in getting the software distributed.
Keep us updated.
Hmm, give me some time on this. That was just a brief clip to show that this is still going along. I’ll release more extensive media for the game creation process and the other games down the line as they mature further.
Yep, I made the website. Thanks for the compliments.
This looks amazing!
Do you think you will have anymore videos/pictures on your progress soon?
Is there any possible way I can test this? Please!
Keep up the good work!
Eliwood,
please show us some real stuff. Something we can try.
We’re planning to open up the project to the public pretty soon. I just want to get the whole site finished and to fix up a few collision detection issues before I do that.
Can’t wait to try it ! Good luck !
P.S. : Flash might be in trouble
Awesome! I can’t wait to check this out.
