Stats time! OpenGL versions

O/S GL Version Installs

Windows 98 1.0 28
Mac OS X 1.1 10795
Mac OS X 1.2 4186
Windows XP 1.3 25154
Windows XP 1.4 10584
Mac OS X 1.5 30518
Windows XP 2.0 11256
Windows Vista 2.1 181

Taken from 1 Jan 2007 till today. Note OSX is so far behind XP. Still 25% of OSX machines are using GL 1.1. No 2.0 support in OSX yet.

Those are surpisingly low, not what I’d have hoped for at all. :frowning: Looks like 1.1 as a minimum spec is still worth targeting at least.

Doh! I missed a bracket in my query. It turns out there are Macs with GL2.0 after all, but still not very many of them.

Can you add failures (no OpenGL/sw) as well?

Aw bugger me and my SQL. I accidentally forgot to put a date filter on it and those stats are for all time. Here we go again:

O/S Version Successes Failures Total Failure Rate %

Mac 10.3 1631 232 1863 12.5
Mac 10.4 8199 815 9014 9.0
Win 5.1 9357 2526 11883 21.3

                     19394 3666 23060 15.9

That’s since 1 January 2007 this time, excluding noise results (under 300 installs - so no Linux, OSX 10.2, 98, ME, or Vista). I’ve had 368 sales in that time.

Looks like my earlier predictions of the ubiquity of OpenGL were also wrong. Bah. I’d like to know why 10% or so of OSX installs are “failures”. I log failures as when either no seconds of gameplay were logged or full games played were logged. Tyre kickers maybe, but I’d find it odd that someone downloaded a game and installed it and it ran OK and they didn’t actually play it and exited cleanly. So I have to assume the worst and decide that these were genuine “did-not-runs”.

No Linux? How come?

Less than 300 installs all year.

Cas

ouch

I’d love to see how that compared to TT

I really don’t go out of my way to help Linuxers… I only use Webstart for them. Shows ya just how successful either Linux or Webstart is eh?
