Speaking of greedy music producers, Check out Bazil Wrath Bone, yo!

So, yeah…

This is the 1st time I brought over my recording gear while kicking it with my old highschool “normal” friends. heh heh…

We just pulled a name out of the hat and that person had to lay something down. and then the next person… I produced / engineered it. Not all these folks are musicians exactly… One of the girls teaches piano and the bassist on one track plays in a Metal band.

The pictures crack me up given the results I squeezed out of those kids; especially the trio of girls that recorded the 1st track on the profile above…

I think ErikD would even like the 3rd track… Beware though… It was towards the end of the night and gin flowed freely…

Anyone planning on going to J1 this year? I’ve got a sick loft near downtown SF / Moscone center… Totally wouldn’t mind people crashing and or opening it up for a party one of the nights… In the past couple of months I’ve been hosting underground events at my space featuring a 4.4.4 3D sound system (8 points / cube). I’m sure I’ll be @ J1 as it’d be criminal to deny my .BOF. this year… Some pictures from the last event at my space: http://www.egregious.net/events/2005/konvolve/ Scroll down for a Industrial techno mix with DJ Amok vs myself the day after… So lets get it on this year… And have a java gaming community .party… not just a townhall… though damn Chris; get Sun to throw down for the wine in the early evening for sure as I’ve got the absinthe bar covered at the JG party!

Also, heads up on a few positions opening at my current day job in the SF area. Want to come out to J1 and stay? Looks like I’ll get a chance to create a small team, so I’ll come here 1st for top notch folks… This gig is mostly rich client related with an expert knowledge of Swing/Java2D and other disciplines familiar to ya game developers…

Listened to your tracks  Who’s larynx suffered in the name of art in Sonic Death Bunny ;D

I did the tourist bit in SF 10 years ago now. Stayed in a guest house on the corner of the park. Saw the giant redwoods, which were totally awesome. Alcatraz was a bit crumbly. I guess the concrete mix wasn’t spot on. Walked over golden gate bridge. Hung about on the pier for a bit.

Good luck with your new team.

Alan

Damn, and theres me just secured a transfer with my current company for move to SF in Janurary. J1 sounds good tho… isn’t it damn expensive to go tho?

That was Sharmini… That cracked me up… As that was the last thing added to that track… her name got pulled from the hat… and I knew she was into doom and metal and stuff… So I was like… ok… Time for some doom vocals… and she was like… “No way… I can’t do that… I’m a girl…” I proceeded to encourage her… No you can, really… Not letting her know I dropped in a pitch shifter and set it to ultra low. She came up to the mic all hesitant and low and behold a roar emerged… she totally jumped back…

Well it will be cool to kick it and who knows maybe even collaborate after you get out here… I have nice things in the works that will hopefully be out by J1 (preview) and final for the Java 6.0 release. The secret to get into J1 is to present a BOF. No way I’d consider paying to go given the current state of the mainline community. In '04 I didn’t run into any truly indie folks like myself at the time… It turns out that a relatively high percentage of BOF presenters don’t show + all of the gaming tech that we deal with here really is cutting edge and not well known with the rest of the Java developer community, so it’s something to talk about. Even delivering a BOF around your space invaders tutorials is more than enough to get a spot. … An editor from O’Reilly just happened to be in my 30 person audience in '04 and after showing the alpha version of that Quake3 engine (Auriga3D) w/ surround sound audio effects. I certainly got an in with that camp… I was invited to O’Reilly’s Foo Camp and Digi-Foo in '04… I tried to go too big for '05 and submit a technical session. Although what I had to show and talk about was amazing I’m no IBM or some big corporate interest, Sun employ, or have wide open source adoption (yet) for EGR tech… :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Oh yes… I’m still working out the budget with the CTO/CEO and I’ll be sure to post it in the Jobs board soon hopefully. If it goes through I’ll be looking for two people with tech experience that is found here for sure. One intermediate borderline advanced person (just out of college is fine) and someone that is advanced. Minimum salary compensation will be posted, etc. The company is Mobile Complete. http://www.mobilecomplete.com It’s the best startup I’ve worked for in terms of end game possibilties as I think they have a legitimate chance, so it’d be rad to include some javagaming folks in the fray and um get their indie game companies funded by a couple of years work as is my plan…

I’ll give a quick synopsis… Mobile Complete reverse engineers cell phones and makes servers out of them which are accessible by a rich client Swing/Java2D application that provides device access and a visual and soon code based scripting system to control many devices at once for testing/automation amongst other purposes. So essentially we are kind of providing something like pCAnywhere for cell phones, except it is a hardware/software solution (hardware only regarding the cell phone itself). There is also a large distributed component to the backend regarding servers (not the typical enterprise setup), so networking skills are also a +. It is fun stuff and exciting to work in a quick paced environment where your work does immediately get out to decent sized clients and can make the difference on closing new deals, etc. Were dealing with all the big content providers, carriers in the US and several international companies, so its exciting.
