Spam Season?

There’s several spam topics on this board all of the sudden. The same thing just happened to my forum, which got inundated with spam even though my forum is so obscure that no one uses it.

What’s the deal? Is there some kind of new unstoppable spambot or something?

Edit: Maybe I spoke too soon. It looks like this forum only has 1 spambot that posted 4 messages. I also just noticed that this forum uses SMF 1.1.5. I had the same software, but I just upgraded to 1.1.7 in the hopes of stopping the spambots.

They disconnected a isp or something similar (stopped peering) that was notorious for sending spam, apparently 60% less spam was registered after ‘shutting it down’. Don’t worry researchers say it should pick up back to the old level within a week ::slight_smile: This might be due to ppl reinstalling there bot’s elsewhere. (it’s probably more fancy then installing but it’s not really my cup of tea, so forgive me)
