Wonder how valuable it would be, if I can find the work that was done in-house at corp, to release to the community here the work done on the Java/PS2 port. Yes, there was an effort and, yes, significant work was done. Would this be of interest to the community to mess around with?

On another note, I am trying to get a hold of the group that has the data and seeing what is there. The build was done on the PS2 dev kit, for sure, but perhaps there’s some nuggets in there that are of value.
I don’t know if the code was given to Sony or is sitting on a drive somewhere in corp, but I’ll see if I can dig anything up.

not just for the ps2 but certification for the ps3 has relaxed somewhat too if I understand correctly.
So if you release a jvm for ps3 and consider any java app as downloadable content you have effectively… : hmm somehow I don’t think that will go over well.

Anyway I’m surprised your allowed to talk about that; if ps2 was seriously considered as an option then such a beast for the ps3 must have been considered/explored too.
Given they worked on the that code; sun must have a few spare ones. I’m sure if gone trough the right channels they wouldn’t mind lending them out in the name of open source. Right mister Melissinos?

Just what blew up, that made that not happen? they had an demo out, done the announcements etc.
apparently ps2 still outsold ps3 in number of units, interesting.
