Some of our games at a chinese site

I was just surfing around and found this site :

http://blog.csdn.net/cping1982/archive/2009/05/21/4207241.aspx

which seems to be promoting java games .
I couldn’t understand anything, but there are lots of games from java-gaming.org, like Virus Effect, Bunny Press, Rombomb and Tactics Pompster .

If someone understands what it is about, just give us a hint

It deals with a Java Desktop Games Festival. Mine does not appear :’( (but TUER is forbidden in China, you already know why…).

Google Translate is awesome! http://translate.google.com/translate?prev=hp&hl=en&js=n&u=http%3A%2F%2Fblog.csdn.net%2Fcping1982%2Farchive%2F2009%2F05%2F21%2F4207241.aspx&sl=zh-CN&tl=en&history_state0=

My game appears here :

isnt this kinda illegal ? I mean maybe I dont want them to ‘promote’ my game
maybe their promotion text is shit

something like that

They can write what they want. You can write what you want. Including shit about Microsoft…

even if they lie ? like imagine they write that in “Virus Effect” you… I dunno some cliché videogame lies, you shoot little children to earn more points or anything like that

Only in countries where lying is illegal. Which I don’t seem to know any…
Depends on where a server is placed depends on the laws it has to follow.
Which is why places like Pirate Bay, can’t be taken down.

well in germany you can certainly sue someone

it’s hard for me to find something similar in english, but its something like “Defamation”

If you lie about someone (company or private person), in public (eg. internet), you may damage their reputation and therefore their chance to succeed on the market, thus limiting his/her profits

I suspect that you could at most argue that (strictly speaking) showing screenshots without permission is a violation of copyright.

Bad press is not defamation; defamation is more something like if they would for example tell your employer a lie that you killed someone, causing you to get fired. (assuming you didn’t actually kill that someone ;))

(but I’m no lawyer)

yeah well the reason im asking this / reacting like this is

when there was the “first” school shooting in germany, all the media eventually blamed video games and especially “counter strike” I think everyone is familiar with that media cliché

anyway, back then, a popular magazine in germany published an article which actually said that in the “killergame” “counterstrike” you would shoot children to earn points. The pictures that were shown, were screenshots from “soldier of fortune”. (not that it would show anything like that)

violence in videogames has been an ongoing debate here in germany

to go a little back ontopic: I find it rather strange that they would “promote” unfinished java games or even free java games at all
I think Im gonna translate and actually read it

Cero, I believe that if you release your game (being finished or not) you are prone to somebody linking to it , reviewing it and even “lying” about the game contents (though I can’t see any reason to do it).

Anyway, as I could understand reading google’s translation, the guy actually played the games and made a decent review .

The only thing that made me a bit sad is that he linked to my game’s older version .

Well I think that’s actually good, to see that our games raise interest in other people, but maybe I would not allow him to post mine if he’d asked, since it’s a WIP.

You should count your lucky stars they only reviewed your game. This Chinese site copied my game and is offering it for download! http://mgame.shouji56.com/mgame/20850.html

O’well, at least they put my name to it! ::slight_smile:

Woo-hoo! Don’t grumble - no publicity is bad publicity! ;D

What puzzled me was that they featured Beetles, which isn’t really a game at all… Strange place, China…

Hi!

I agree with you, it is a cliché. For some politicians, it is easier to find wrong guilty people than solving the true problems (they have found a fall guy). The capitalism is socially “violent” everyday even in Germany and it almost does not shock anyone.
