Hi al, I thought I would start this thread since I can not find any Java SIGGRAPH news anywhere.
OpenGL 2.0 is out, many interesting things there besides the shading language. www.opengl.org
Anyone else?

As soon as we get drivers I’m sure that LWJGL will be supporting 2.0…

No comments from JCD? I guess he doesn’t have net access there?

Net access was close to useless at Siggraph. Theoretically we had wireless throughout the whole conference centre, but nobody I know could get a decent connection. Constant dropouts, poor signal strength etc.
Siggraph was really interesting this year. For a typical LA event, which is mainly movie-industry dominated, there was an awful lot of realtime work. In fact, it felt like most of the conference was about shaders and taking the previous non-realtime work and turning into realtime. It’s the first time in the 9 years I’ve been attending that I was so busy that I barely got to see either the animation theatre or exhibition floor. Most of the time was in courses, sketches and papers. Some really interesting courses this year (eg a whole day on realtime shadowing, and another whole day on volume rendering techniques). Really got a lot out of it professionally this year and plenty of business contacts. Expect Aviatrix3D and Xj3D to sprout volume rendering capabilities shortly
