any JGO’s to meet there ? take a beer somewhere ?
:persecutioncomplex: nobody available to drink a beer somewhere in LA ?!
I wish I could 8), but distance is a problem.
what exactly is SIGGRAPH?
Special Interest Group GRAPHics.
It’s an ACM Special Interest Group. The proceedings of SIGGRAPH are often some of the best papers in graphics. It’s pretty much the leading place to find research in that area.
I have a couple of videos in the SIGGRAPH video review that I did when I was a student</big head>
I used to be close to LA! No longer, though, now I’m in northern California.
finally land in L.A. yesterday night after a 30 hours travel :-\ let’s go to SIGGRAPH now
first notice :
automatic gears cars sucks when you have to learn how its works at 2 A.M.
money (dollars ) looks the same as in my first travel twenty years ago ! (money change twice in france in this period)
Probably a lot easier than learning manual for the first time at 2 AM
hehe sure I just wanted to “bash” something because everything else looks so nice except coffe
about SIGGRAPH there are some really amazing and some funny student § searcher work, one I will mention because it use Java redo in real time a video ( recorded by webcam) by composing thousand of little images based on they brightness
one specialy impressive work is a full panoramic 3d screen, it produce a full 3d image like hologramme : you can for example turn around to see object from all angle
Good to hear some first hand report, SIGGRAPH is well respected, a small handful of Finnish graphics people go there when they can.
3d monitor sounds interesting…
ha nice this is exacly this one
SIGGraph finished and I am back in france :(, I ll try to post a summary and some picture/video later, for now I would say the most technical impressive thing I ve seen is a high precision 3D printer capable to print finished working mechanism with color up to 640*480 / inches² ( like gears, nut/bolt, topographic map lego car and many more )
The most represented technologies was : 3D motion capture / 3D screen with or without glasses / 3D scanner / 3D printer / Graphics tablet, lot more but those one were IMO the most represented
NB.: unfortunatly there was really few people at the JOGL conference but… but… it was really interresting
will post more later
wow, its amazing what ppl are doing these days :P.
cant wait to see those photos :). this 3d printer sounds interesting
here is a blog with picture and small video (in french, also for now first two days only ) http://superdevtrips.blogspot.com/
there are some pictures of the 3D printer one I found really revelant is this one
no parts to link, it output from the printer working and colored
for the record as an american that maniquan is still wierd to me :P.
so, u didnt just go to SIGGRAPH, u like toured around that city?
hehe we found it really funny, everything is bigger : cars, building, etc…
inded we have drive all around, but this was very short time (5 days) so we did not go everywhere we wanted but have seen a lot of famous place that we enjoyed, it was a really nice trip.
Everything? Really? I don’t think so ;D French guys have something bigger ;D
hehe, well we had some competition. There was the OpenCL BOF, techtalks and Makeing of Tron Legacy Animation Festival in the largest Hall of the conference in parallel
(it was quite hard for me to talk at the jogamp BOF instead of visiting the OpenCL BOF ;))
