Should I make a blog to showcase games?

I am thinking about making a blog to showcase java indie games. anyone think this is a good idea?

Go for it.

Only as many people as read your blog are going to even see the links to the games, however, and then a fraction of those people will actually play them.

If you have a passion for reviewing games or showcasing the indie java games I say yes, go for it. If you put the work into the blog you will get visitors.

I don’t mean to be negative in any way, but you seem to post alot of “Should I … ?” questions.

I understand you want to poll interest, but these questions are pretty useless: both to the forum and to you.

For example, nobody here is going to be OPPOSED to you creating a blog - I imagine most people are indifferent to it.

I would suggest you follow the “If you build it, they will come” philosophy. Some people here may encourage you to do , but you haven’t “hooked” anyone to your potential product. You have no audience yet.

If you build it, and showcase it, and make it stand out, then you will obtain an audience.

Hi!

Sorry for the delay, I’m going to post your finished games on the FGF players’ portal when I have some time.

I think that another blog to showcase games would not be very useful as there are already the Java Game Tome, Random Thoughts, the FGF players’ portal (both on the web and as a Facebook application)…

I think Woogley said it best.

But… going off what Julien said: indeed there are already all those different portals, but they all are (in my opinion) lacking one thing: personality. That’s not at all a bad thing, seeing as their main purposes are just to put the games out there in a neutral fashion. However, if you make your own blog you can make the reason people come to it being your “expert” advice and opinion, funny quips, etc. etc. Take a look at a lot of the successful web blogs and web comics - it’s all about personality. If people enjoy going to your site, they’ll go to it.

I know that if there were someone I “trusted” who was posting recommended Java games, I’d check them out much more frequently then trusting the “top rated” by the masses games you see on these portals. The masses are often stupid or ignore what a developer would find interesting.
