Sharp GX10

Hi,

Has anyone tried out the java implementation on the sharp gx-10, this is the phone in the Vodaphone-live launch.

Just wondered how it performed compared to other similar devices (samsung sgh100, motorola t720).

Also, anyone found any specs on the java capabilities of the phone ?

does it have any vendor specific api’s?

Actually hadn’t heard anything about it. Got a link to their material?

The only info i have found is end-user specs on the phone. Nothing related to java at all.

in german, i guess its understandable enough:

Other than than, i know nothing

I just read this story http://www.intelligentx.com/newsletters/technology/articles/story_tech2_110502.cfm about the new Nokia phones.

“… N-Gage mobile game deck product and the Nokia 6800, optimized for text messaging.”

They mention that Sega has games for N-Gage that coem on memory cards, but they don’t mention that N-Gage has Java. They DO mention that the 6800 has ‘support for Java’. The 6800 also has a full keyboard which is cool - makes it sound like a RIM Blackberry.

Actually that leads me in another direction…has anyone done any Java programming for a Blackberry? It seems that it would be a reasonable sized market for J2ME stuff - and I’m sure there are a lot of people that would use it to play games during some really boring business meetings ;D

looks quite funky., check also this phone:

looks like a real gamers phone

Wow! Now that is a phone built for games!

Actually I’m sure the interface could work well for organizer-type applications as well.

Cool.

please check this url , you may find more details about this New Sharp Camera Phone

Have a look at sun - here you can get the Java2Microedition API and a development kit if you register for free there.

The API ist very small and you can’t use the full power of java :frowning: But for some games it seems to be ok.

I still have no idea how to get the java applications to my mobile ??? Irda provides no possibility to upload something to the phone directly. Maybe I have to start my own wap-portal?

Jan Hendrik

Hi,
I got this phone and its brilliant. I’ve written a couple of lame games by myself using suns wireless toolkit and j2me. Only bitch I have about it though is that for some reason sharp or vodafone or both limited the ir so that u can only use it for modem purposes. This means that to deploy your games you need to upload them to a web server in jar / jad format and then download them again with the phone. Of course the web server needs to be configured properly to support the correct mime types. In the end I just downloaded apache and when ever I want to transfer a game I get my own web server going! >:(

If you still cant do it Jan and you need help getting your games over email me and I’ll help you out. Its all just a matter of configuring the web server.

Oh yea I forgot to say. Vodafone have a special developers library for the gx10 and the live servce. It contains some ‘native’ apis for the phone which allow you to do a few more things than the standard j2me does. Go to via.vodafone.co.uk to try and get one.
