SGS 0.9 News

All the latest greatest news!

To recap to date:

  • SGS 0.9 SDK is out! These are pretty much the final APIs. This version has been re-written top to bottom by labs experts in all the fields the SGS touches. The result is much crunchy goodness in terms of performance and smoothness of execution as well as streamlined and improved APIs.
  • Never say never. We have announced that Darkstar is going Open Source by JavaOne 2007 (May). This is a very brave move by Sun’s management. For all my thoughts on its see my recent blog:

The short of it though is that this is a Good Thing 8)
  • Project Wonderland starts. For those of you who have wanted a higher level virtual world engine ontop of Darkstar, take a look at Wonderland:
    https://lg3d-wonderland.dev.java.net/
The brilliant folks at IMI are doing the client while the looking glass team are doing the server. Its going to be very cool!
  • NCSoft has been using Darkstar to prototype a new game. How’s that for a “first customer”? 8)

IMPORTANT: The Darkstar Playground has begun taking applications for our first set of developers to host. If you are a serious developer then we’d like you to submit an application! You don’t have to be big, you just need to have the ability and intention to create a Darkstar based game.

Applications for Round 1 of the Playground close April 5th, so get your app in ASAP.
