RPG Game (Early Alpha)

Hi Guys,

Im currently creating a RPG Game but it is still in an early Alpha State. You have a House where you live and when the Night begin you can sleep there. But at the Day you must complete Quests and fight against Monsters.
Below is a Screenshot, I will post later the link where you can Download it because at the Moment the Music from the Game won’t play for any reason.

I Hope you will like it and give me some reviews when its online later

It certainly looks like it could be interesting. As a question, if players are doing quests, and fighting monsters, during the day, what will the player be doing during the night? I’m assuming people will want to do more than sleep. I’m not saying either way is good or bad, but I’d like to know.

I also like the graphics between the sand and the water, although maybe the contrast between the dots and tile colour could be reduced a bit.

At Night there are “special” monsters that don’t appear when it isn’t Night and they are more aggresive than the normal Monsters, if you only can sleep that would be boring
Yeah at the Moment I play a little bit with the Contrast and the Colours when I have time I will correct it.
And sorry for my bad English I am from Germany

Ah that’s fair enough, I like games that play differently during different periods of the day, it adds to the illusion.

Your English is largely fine, I’ve met my share of English speakers who are completely incomprehensible.

Yeah but its complicated to code so I need a bit time  I will post the Game later on my Website which I am currently working on.

The player and the font are copied from the Designs by Zephyr tutorials. shakes head

Yes I watched his Tutorial Series but is that Bad when the Font is the Same ?

It’s plagiarism, which is obviously bad.

DarkCart, I think that this game is in way too early of a stage to be bothering TGStudios about plagiarism.

Well, I did this, and caught a lot of flak.

As long as these assets are just placeholders or will be changed later, your fine

There is a difference between using a font and copying the entire demo and saying “I built this room”, basically saying it’s yours, DarkCart.

I hope you realize that RPG Stands for Role Playing Game.

@CopyableCougar4 If watch the videos on YouTube DarkCart is talking about, TGStudios literally copied everything from the videos.

Well but there are key differences, as I stated above, gzuzboey:

  • The font is only a minor aspect, versus the entire demo being copied from the tutorial
  • It was not claimed as his own, unlike the aforementioned project

And why does anybody care?

Is the project complete? No. Is there profit from this project right now? No. Is the font something that can’t be changed later? No.

Then let the issue be and let the OP show their project.

Saw this earlier, but didn’t have time to write a decent reply due to having to go to work. I myself followed this same tutorial about six months ago, the artwork is memorable however. Anyway, I’m with Cougar, let the guy do his thing. We all start somewhere. Best we can do is give him honest criticism when he releases a build. RPG, adventure, whatever you wanna call it. My main concern is if it has a fun and engaging game loop.

Good luck TGS, and do tinker with the current assets or develop your own, eventually. Even if you think they’re not very good, we won’t fault you for it. They just need to at least communicate concepts and we’ll be happy(for the most part.)

Just to say the Player is only a Placeholder that I am using for testing animation the player will be replaced later
I Uploaded the first Build on my Website you can download it as a jar file and report me bugs, the performance and so on.It wont play on my Website as an applet there is an server configuration error.

Current progress:

  • Easily generated levels
  • Different tile colours
  • Little TitleMenu and Pause Menu (Very Buggy)
  • Animated Water

Figured I’d take a look before I went to bed.

As you noted, the pause screen is buggy. I can pause on the title screen, and when paused I’m forced back to the title screen. Random generation works for the most part, there’s a bug in the code somewhere though. Only had it happen twice, but the game can crash when generating a new map.

I don’t really have much else to say about it. When some actual content is added I’ll be able to give better criticism.

I guess this Topic should be moved to WIP games, as it is not finished yet.
@Topic: I like the idea to have special monsters at night. They might be more dangerous, but drop more valuable items.
This would scare new players, so that they go home early and encourage better players to hunt them.

New Build: 0.1.1

(+) Added Slime
(+) Added Health Bar
(*) Fixed TitleMenu a bit
