Revenge of the Titans

Hey what about an Environmentally friendly green medal for completing a level without building factories and using up all the resources

tower promotion sounds like a nice idea, would be cool to see your little infantry men get promotion and ranks too giving them better weaponry and making the player care for them

Please name some successful easy games.
(Again, iphone (and other phones) games don’t count, that’s a completely different market)

I felt Trine was very easy.

Farmville and Bejeweled (Puzzle Quest being a variant)

Just about every game made by BFG. Actually no, every game made by BFG. Apart from that, all discussions about individual titles with developers is in Fight Club, so no speaky here

I tested it on my five year old dell inspiron 500 with pretty late java and pretty crappy graphics card… (running xp) It was playable. Sometimes it stuttered but overall it worked fine. I am impressed.

I tested it on my 1.5 year old vista with good gaming profile. It worked like a charm.

I have played to level 20 a couple of times, trying to keep as much money as possible. Some things to note:

  • If I collect money from a factory right before it is full, it will still be marked with “collect” a couple of seconds later. When I click it, I will collect 10 or 20$ as expected.
  • Sometimes the crystals got spawned right onto a spanpoint. No chance of building any defences there.
  • While random levels are fun, it encourages “Restart level” until I get a good setup. Maybe it should cost money to restart unless you really try each map.
  • F and T only work with completely empty turrest or full factories. When pressing F I want to get to the factory that is the most full, and when pressing T I want to see the most empty turret.
  • Factories could try to collect from crystals that few other factories can reach first.
  • Permanent build shortcuts. One fast can learn to press BT for building turret for instance. Same for powerups. The 123 shortcuts always change and is not that useful.

Good call on F and T buttons, will implement.

The penalty for restarting a level is medals. (To be seen in the beta). Restart once and you’ll never get Gold for it  (Then Silver, then Bronze, then … some naff ribbon) I couldn’t make it cost money because the other reason a level is restarted is because you’re being pwned because it’s too hard, and losing money is just going to make it harder.

Will see about factories choosing more tricky-to-reach crystals, shouldn’t be hard.

Permanent build shortcuts - indeed, a totally new HUD interface - already underway

Sounds good, eager to try it!

Not sure if you want this, but every time I exit the game I am getting an error log dump. There appears to be no problem because the game doesn’t crash on me or anything.

Just saying that for me that happens when I don’t call AL.destroy() before Display.destroy()

Could be that. I’ll look into it - thanks.

The first one has the social persistent aspect, but I’ll absolutely agree on the second one. I’ll give up.

Having played the demos and so, I have no doubt this is a great game. =)

New version coming in a few days… would be interested to know how the difficulty tuning works out for everyone. Stay tuned etc.

Another thing…
Sometimes the progressbar for loading a mission got stuck. When I alt-tabbed out and back it was full and I could start playing.

I confess I cannot conceive of any circumstances under which that is possible (and I’ve never seen it either)… it could just possibly be a display problem though where the screen isn’t being updated. Drivers all up-to-date?

Cas

I don’t blame you
I am pretty sure there has not been a driver update for years…

I also have got a blue screen of death, that was a while ago!

  1. Play the game on laptop.
  2. Your infant son aproaching, close the lid so he doesnt mess around with the game.
  3. Take care of son.
  4. Reopen the laptop and revive the computer from sleeping.
  5. Continue playing.
  6. Without closing the lapop go fix some food for your son.
  7. Watch the kid mess with the laptop and start a second copy of Monster mashReveng of the titans.
  8. Close the second copy.
  9. Close the laptop.
    10 Open the laptop.
  10. Admire the blue screen of death.

;D

Might not be able to reproduce that one easily

Anyone got a Digg account? I’d be grateful if you could Digg this interview for me.

Cas

Done!

Next time you should get the word “Java” in there as well to help pave the road for the rest of us mortals

[quote]that video is full of all kinds of awesome.

Made it to level 20 and cleared the level. The level did not end. I checked the whole map but don’t see any more gidrahs. I also killed the big titan. Is that just all that is available right now?

And ruin his own chances of success? I released a standalone product and made quite an effort hiding that it was built with / running on Java.
