Resources section...

Are we going to have a hosted resources section, is that part of the wiki?

Kev

Elucidate me, what do you mean by “hosted resource”?

JK

Um, a place for artists to put up:

3d models, sprites, backgrounds, textures, music, sound effects, etc…

I realise there are resources all over the web, but if this java game development, a large part of that is finding and working with artists (at least for hobbiest)…

Kev

My suggestion is to start a project for public domain art and use the CVS repository just like we do for code.

CQ

Artist + CVS = Programmer thinking

I work with about 30 or so computer artists of varying type.
Never seen one of them use CVS for any online art repository.

Artists are exactly going to download, install, set-up account login, read whacky developer speak in set-up page AND in WinCVS windows and docs… etc. etc just so they can give away their art.

In fact the only reason programmers do is because everyone else is doing it HAHAHA.

Any other options?

opps, should be

“Artists AREN’T exactly…”

Kinda has a different meaning

We simply need a servlet that can accept uploads and a directory where they can be stored. Putting that type of stuff in CVS usually makes artists just not do it.

How about starting a new project and using the “File sharing” area?

d

Okay, anyone know of a free or cheap servlet to do this nicely?

JK

Depends on whether or not that servlet needs to do authentication. If it doesn’t I’ll put something together tomorrow. If it does, I’ll need to see how logins are handled across java.net communities.
