It’s been a while since the last time I wrote some code (life…) and I was thinking: “It would be cool if I had time to make a little 2D game. Probably a horror one. I GOT IT!!! I’ll make a 2D remake of Silent Hill 1”
Has there ever been 2d remakes of 3d games?
If so, do they have the “charm” of the original?
Wouldn’t you like to play a top-down Resident Evil 4?
What are your thoughts about the topic?
There was a miniLD not that long ago that had the theme demake. A demake is exactly what you are describing. Sometimes they work sometimes they don’t. I’ve played some that are very fun and others that made me cringe.

The thing that I most want is a 2d remake of a 2d horror game
There is a flash version of Portal that is in 2D.
It’s quite fun and was the only “portal”-game I played for years

I found this yesterday… It’s not exactly a 2d remake of doom, the game play is too different/simplistic, but it’s an interesting take anyway.
Demakes can be fun, it’s a different kind of logic/problem solving skill to program, because instead of trying to make an existing game better, you’re trying to make an existing game still feel like the original, with a much more limited scope. I think it would be fun to make.
But yeah, it’s not an entirely original idea to demake a game, it’s actually really popular to do so. I’d just pick a game you love (Like Silent Hill) and try to capture the essence of the game, but in 2d.
Ok, here’s the deal.
I’ll get a tablet in a few weeks. Will install a psx emu. Will play Silent Hill. And then (if I manage to get some time) will try my best to do a remake/demake. 8)
