"Recent Posts" changes suggestions

Like in topic. I think that the most of people here are using this panel to see what was posted recently, but it is not perfect. Suggestions:

 • highlight posts/topics made by highlighted users
 • highlight (in another color) new posts since last refresh/visit
 • make posts which start new thread more visible (another font color, “new topic” graphic before post?)

Why not ask the SMF developers? Then it wouldn’t be all on me :point:

What about adding “tracking” of user behavior so that it sort the messages weighed by “newness” and the probability that the user will find them interesting?

I actually like it how it how it is right now, just maybe followed posts should be highlighted so I can quickly scan the posts and see what I want to read first.

With what data would you ‘sort’ the posts by? Thread title?

“I click on threads with the word ‘popcorn’ in the subject a lot, so I want all posts with the word ‘popcorn’ in the subject to appear first in the new post list, because if it says ‘popcorn’ it must be more interesting!”

completely useless functionality and a waste of time, IMO.

I like the highlight idea. Though I agree with Riven, pester the SMF guys until they submit!

@zngga:
I wasn’t serious
I already thought of highlighting posts that you followed, then I looked at the PHP, and postponed it for a bit.

@Roquen:
Good to know, lol
There are a few quite useful links on the top right of the JGO image. One of them is "Show unread posts since last visit. " this might be what You are looking for with nr2

This shows unread posts since last visit and requires additional click (two if you want to open in new tab), so is filling point 2 only partially. :slight_smile:

Some men just want to watch the world burn.

I thought there was something wrong with my computer at first :persecutioncomplex:

An awesome feature would be to get users to search the forum before post the same question for the bagillionth time.

Any thread posting containing a subject or post that starts with “how do I” or ends with ? could automatically trigger a search on the terms :slight_smile:

Cas :slight_smile:

Considering making other people do that job for free? Volunteers who want to learn? :wink:
