ahh ok… my bad
Actually that’s one place where the “What is the name of this website” one comes up trumps.
In fact how about combining it with a standard captcha (please enter the name of this website and the word in the image below, separated by a space)? Requires a small change to an off-the-shelf piece of software and any bot to be customised for the site.
Yah, we need something - site name/sums are fine by me - anything that works…
How about a grid of checkboxes, and you have to check them to make the letter J? There could be a picture next to it showing how to do it even, and that could kill off tons of bots, and be easy enough for anyone to do.
Updating the forum could help…

[quote]Simple Machines is happy to announce the release of SMF 1.1.6, which fixes a number of minor bugs in 1.1.5 and addresses a security vulnerability. While the vulnerability primarily affects SMF installations on Windows servers, we would like to encourage all users to upgrade as soon as possible. A successful exploit could result in privilege escalation.

The forum is still using 1.1.5
Well, hopefully Chris can upgrade it soon, then.
A switchover to a new server (moving out of current server farm) will coincide with upgrades and new features folks have been asking for. Will update the mods next week.
Awesome! Thanks Chris!
errr…you guys know how captchas are broken right?
They simply copy/link your captcha to some dodgey free p0rn site and request their users to fill in the captcha before they are allowed in.
As discussed a dozen posts and almost three months ago in this very thread?
ah cool, hope there isn’t any down time (at least for more then a few hours/days?)
also it would be a nice time to implement the suggestions in this thread (would greatly simplify and clean up JGO).
When will this happen? I had hoped from what I listed it would of been done quickly.
Somebody please kill the bloody spam bot (keke). Its destroyed half the forum in the last 24 (12?) hours. 70+ posts.
You use the [report to moderator] feature? It wakes up Demonpants from his otherwise pleasant daydreams.
Funny thing… that webserver is running IIS 6.0, so unlike Apache2, you can’t DOS it from a home internet connection.
Note:
We can, however, punish them by automating contact-form submits, clearly stating we are not interested in spam. Keep in mind, you shouldn’t be traveling to China in the next decade or so.
Would be nice if someone would listen to me and update the forums…
Raaaauuuuugh!
70 god damn posts. Why is there not a “delete all posts by this user” button. He’s banned, but this is going to take a stupidly long time to clean up.
Edit: Done. At least you can delete posts from the “View All Posts By This User” list. Still took 10 minutes that I can’t get back.
Thanks! If I could, I’d give you 10 minutes.
So do we know who has full admin rights these days?
ChrisM, and he seems otherwise engaged.
