Sorry, only time for a quick look at the moment - but an alpha value of 0.8f for your textured quad is quite opaque, really. Maybe it actually is blending correctly, but the effect isn’t very noticeable?

Try dropping the alpha to 0.01 and see if that makes a difference. If the textured area almost disappears, bump the alpha level up gradually until you get the effect you want.

i was using the texture loader from the NeHe texture loading tutorial – found out it wasn’t loading the textures in RGBA format, but RGB. I was driving myself crazy with the glBlendFunc combinations… argh :-X
