well, thats a single bug - not even a “terrible” one because its just slow and does not break applications.
So yes, Java6 has this bug, as has/had Java5 many bugs - as does Windows or Linux or KDE.
But in overall I guess Java6 is far less “bugged” than other java releases
I’d agree, Java 6 was a better release than Java 5 bug-wise. There are a few minor regressions. Maybe Sun could be a little quicker on the patching front.
No my game works better with Java 1.6 because of many bug fixes whatever the platform except maybe Macintosh OS X. It is really stupid to advise people to get back to Java 1.5.
That’s true, java 6 is much faster… But there are too much bugs with the Swing UI, though it’s gonna be fixed at some near time.
Apologize for the advice, but I HAD TO re-install back on 1.5 with all Windows systems for my apps to work ! Anyway, if possible, I can help for getting sources working on both platforms.
That may be your fault, that may come from bugs of your application!!! At work, we have developed a very big software (client-server through RMI, using Swing, connected to Oracle databases, working under Solaris, Windows and Linux, maybe under Macintosh but I didn’t test it) since about 1998, it represents several millions lines of code and we MUST absolutely use the latest stable version of Java, JRE 1.6 update 4 in order to make it work fine because we depend on recent bug fixes. We don’t deny that even Java 1.6 has got bugs but of course, it is far better than using Java 1.5. If you were right, not a lot of people would use Java 1.6.
