Quadtris

Hey All,

It has been suggested that I show my game here for the delights of yourselves.

Introducing Quadtris

Quadtris is a remake of the age old classic Tetris. You have 4 grids to fill up and get lots of lines!

Fret not, a normal mode is also included for those feint of heart!

Controls

Left and Right Arrows - Move current piece left and right

Up Arrow - Rotate current piece

Down Arrow - Accellerate towards bottom of current grid

Spacebar - Hold/Swap current piece with that in the hold

About
Quadtris was built using the Slick2D library.
The highscore system was built using my own library and I have opened it up to the world to test ride. It is very simple to use and the API etc is all free.

So please, enjoy the twisted fun ahead and I would love to her some feedback/constructive criticism. Error dumps are also gracefully accepted

very nice game and presentation.

+1 point if the game installs and uninstalls correctly
+1 point if the game doesn’t crash ever
+1 point if the game is slickly presented
+1 point if the game has ā€œgoodā€ graphics that suit the game
+1 point if the game has ā€œgoodā€ sound that suit the game
+1 point if the game’s overall style is ā€œgoodā€
+1 point if the game is original or brings a great new original twist
+1 point if your judge enjoyed playing the game
+1 point if the game is complete enough that doesn’t feel anything is missing
+1 point if you don’t whine and you demand nothing of the mods

10/10

FEATURED.

the game look nice but … why ? why ? and why ??? are you using slick & lwjgl ???

I got a security popup … ok this is not the hell, let continue… the game use maybe some fancy 3D …

It took between 30s/54s to load the GL binding … ok the graphic is probably awesome !!

and … no finally only simple graphics easily doable with standard Java API

that’s cool I got 800 fps… but what the interrest ?

so finally, IMHO, absolutly unecessary security popup & load time for a Web game

appart that the game look nice and polished

I still a noob. I chose slick as it was very simple to get setup and working. Plus the slick community are very approachable and not so big that any cries for help will vanish in with the rest of the posts.

Admittedly, it does take a while to load but that is because 80% of the game file is music, and the game definitely does not feel the same without the music.

As for the security popup, I though all the files had to be signed? This is because the same files are used for the JNLP, which need to be signed I believe.

I’m glad it is featured, ego boost! 8)

that’s a good reason

may be, dont know no I am only talking of the lwjgl screen loading (30/45s saying 400Kb/s)

you only need signing you files if you requiere specials privileges on client computer :

  • hard disk access
  • video hardware ( opengl binding : lwjgl / jogl )
  • special input
  • special network
    etc…

maybe I missed something but seems that in your game nothing of those was really requiered : you should have been able do make it fully unsigned, this could have made visitor experience a little more ā€œWeb-likeā€

EDIT : check those 2D demos using Pulpcore as you can see : no security popup & fast load

Quite a nice game, though I swear I’ve played a tetris game called quadtris before… I think it was on DOS though a LONG time ago on my 386.

Dzzd, I know that you are supposed to be able ot do it if you dont do tohose things, but for some reason it just doesnt work that way :P.

I am gunna give it a try though just ot make sure.

by special networking does that include loading a URL?

yes if the URL differ from the one who deliver the Applet : protocole / domaine / IP, but a simple serverside proxy ( as apache configured as a reverse proxy) can resolve it pretty easily

well, besides that, slick on it’s own requires a signing :frowning:
