The Turn-Based Battle

This is a quick game I made for a competition between a friend of mine. I made it in 4 days and it has only on bug. (When you use a lever, or any other object sometimes it will not work, you just have to move around and try it again, it will eventually work) (I would’ve added in separate enemy images as well but I ran out of time as the deadline it right now)(Must force quite to exit sorry :-\ )

Feedback is always welcomed!

Works on every OS!

Download: Here!(Load time is about 6 seconds on my mac however I’m sure it’s much faster on any other computer)

You should really fix those issues before posting this to Showcase.

It was a game jam, and I ran out of time. Sorry.

Why can’t you fix them now?

I am actually, however I had to stop for the day. But did anyone try the game? I’d like just a bit of feedback.

Can just a single person try the game and give a comment? I’d just like a bit of feedback.

I haven’t tried it because I am on a computer without updated Java (too lazy to update).

However, just one comment. I think you kind of deviated too far from what I usually like in a text-based game. For me, text-based games usually entail typing into the command line, and zero graphics or formatting of text (location-wise). What you did was basically a game with ASCII graphics.

There is a reason I like text-based games, and that is because they are just so different and simplistic than big AAA games. While I like the concept, you strayed too far from the text-based concept for my personal liking.

Sorry that this comment is so negative, but I just though I should share my thoughts.

Better than nothing man. Haha To each their own.

I gave it a go. I didn’t mind the buttons as an interface.

Some things I noticed:

When I healed myself, nothing happened.
When an enemy healed themselves I was the one who recovered health.
The southern dungeon played fine, but when I first went into the northern dungeon only the 8 tiles around me loaded. I went left and came back and it loaded correctly. At some point I ran into a chest that wouldn’t open, I tried from all the open tiles around it. After a I had a few encounters with enemies the attack button quit responding and there was a null pointer exception in the console (sorry I didn’t manage to save it).

You should add item descriptions/tips as you hover over the buttons.
Add a way to quit!
A consistent art style would help, try using ascii art for the buttons too.

I think it’s a decent effort for a jam, it has potential.
