Puppygames Competition!

As detailed here on my new blog, Puppygames is officially opening a little games competition. No rules or restrictions really, crappy prize, and the deadline’s 30th April 2006. Of course you Java types have a bit of an advantage when it comes to scoring points as you can most likely get it running on all the computers without any trouble at all. It’d be nice to see a Blitz entry or two and see how they compare with Java.

So go for it!

As far as judges and hosting’s concerned… meh, we’ll deal with it later 8)

Engines started…

2.5 weeks? :-o

30th April, not March.

Doesn’t matter for you tho does it? You can just re-enter miners4k

Kev

Ok, engines have stalled. I can only render grayscale for some reason, ive got latest drivers, all other lwjgl/ogl stuff works fine. I guess its just not meant to be.

ahum, look at that. It’s march now.

* Markus_Persson sucks at months.

By the way, I’m so in.

Going to make a full version of miners. People have requested one anyway.

In that case… I’m so out  Meh, maybe not…

Kev

oh looking forward to a nice 3d Miners with sounds effects ;D

Just a quick note to say it doesn’t have to be in 3d, nor does it even have to use LWJGL or JOGL, it can be plain old Java applet (all the machines have 1.4 or better installed). It doesn’t even have to be Java. Use Pygame or Flash or Blitz if you want. Just remember that the score is based on how many of the judging machines it runs on…

Cas

hey, expect heavy competition :stuck_out_tongue: http://www.gamedev.net/community/forums/topic.asp?topic_id=380790

I find the rules quite contradictive:

“Scoring is based in equal weights on graphics, sound, polish, fun”

and further down…

“there are more points available for polish, fun, and theme than graphics and sound”

hmm, so is it equal or not?

Sorry, I’ll clear that up.

Scoring is basically (graphics + sound + polish + fun) x theme x number of machines it runs on

Therefore you need to concentrate mostly on adhering to the theme and getting it to run on all the machines before you work on the graphics and sound.

Cas

Would people from JGO help to test the games in other OS…
I haven’t found someone to make the tests for Mac…

Rafael .-

BTW, the game is still in design stage. So nothing to show yet.

I’ll test games on my G5, provided they’re webstarted, or applets.

Cas

I’d be happy to test on my G4 laptop.

oh isn’t that a little strict with the themes, basically you’ll have to have all 5 themes to stand a chance to win, maybe you could have a rule something like at least two of the 5 themes must be used, that’d be a little easier?

No, the score for theme is how closely you adhere to any one theme. So, “digging” would do. Or a game with rocks. The more imaginative you are with your use of the theme the more points you’ll score here.

Cas

ah, phew, i thought it was the number of themes you used ;D ;D ;D
silly me!
