PROJECT APPROVED: m3ge

An 3D game engine for mobile devices based on JSR 168 (sic) - Mobile 3D Graphics API for J2ME.

Editors Note: The proposer apparently means JSR 184

I have a few important questions on this project and the related one m3geclipse.

These appear to be products from a commercial indevour: http://www.hybrid.fi/main/m3g/index.php
Does the developer intend to release source code to this community?

Second question, more for the community,. Is JSR-184 really a game technology? From my reading of the JSR I tend to think of it as too high level for most game development-- closer to a VRML.

I have not seen an answer to my question to the proposer.

(or to the JSR 184 question from the communtyi for that matter.)

I wil lhold this over one mreo week and if we have no new information, I will close this and the related m3geclispe with a “no”

Hi all,

I’m the project owner of M3GE project. I’m late, sorry.

Well, the project uses the jsr 184 spec to create a mobile 3d game engine. Now the project is small, but already has player movement, fire action, collision detection and an implementation of a Wavefront file loader (used when m3g don’t is supported by other design tools).

No, I’m using JSR 184 spec to make a 3G game engine for mobiles. I used JSR 184 RI to test it.

Does the developer intend to release source code to this community?

The code are already in project CVS.

Is JSR-184 really a game technology?

No, it is a 3D API. In most cases it uses OpenGL ES spec.

Thanks

looks nice, but will it really be able to run on mobile phones?

anyways - a 3D Engine for mobile-phones - wow !!

I’ve tested it in my Siemens CX 65

The emulator:

I rarely vote but I will +1 this.

Im still noti sure how practical 184 is for games, but Im willing and happy to be proved wrong

I am using this engine to build a 3d flight simulator game for Autonomous Productions.

Just some notes…jsr184 is good enough to support flight sim AI, 3d radar, heat-seaking missiles, animated explosion effects and lots more. Nice little api, in my opinion, for making games. (Thank you, Java community, for adding the getTransformTo() method, btw…

And you’d be surprised how many phones actually run jsr184…

;D Absolutely!!!

+1 … one of these days I gotta get me a proper mobile phone.

So…

Aproved?

Thanks.

Once phones get fast enough, to render a bit more than a few objects, this would be a great addition to mobile gaming. Meanwhile development on this project can be done. Seems like good timing for me.

It’ll be great to have a 3d engine for mobile development

Patience grasshopper.

I close votes on Friday… unelss im overloaded and then sometiems its saturday or Sunday.

If there are no serious questions raised that neeed to be answered between now and when I clsoe the vote then yes, it looks like an approval.

Speaking of which, I am going to assume the related project m3geclipse, which is the tool to feed this project, is effectively part of the same project and consider it approved too unless someone strenuosly objects…

m3geclipse isn’t a part of my project. Although it is a great tool to show m3g binary files (defined in JSR 184).

I think that you must consider two projects.

Oh! okay, thanks.

They both arrived in my inbox at the same time so I made the incorrect assumption they were together.

Thanks.

Project approved by vote.
