Preview of TT - Tile Tools

Update: 11.04.2013

  • added “Variants” to tiles

  • added “Growing” mechanism to map building
(Tiles can have attributes, that imply growing features)

  • build seamless tiles added (although it looks quirky)

  • added color (RGB/HSB) seetings to grafics

  • BugFixes

  • I still have to clean up the code a bit, build packages with some example grafics, than I will go public.

Hello to you all,

I know there are a hell of a lot of Tile Tools, Map makers and so on out there.
Nonetheless in preparation of new gaming project I built a tool collection I named TT-TileTools.

I just updated my documentation and would like to get some first impression feedback, befor releasing the tool itself to the public.

Here is a link: http://www.deamonsouls.de/TT/

Short summary of its merrits:

  1. ImageCollector
  • collect images
  • extract tile grafics and animations
  • bundle and save images
  • crop images and animations
  • build elementary animations form grafics
  • save data to xml or customized export
  1. TileManager
  • build tiles from images
  • animated tiles
  • tiles can have an arbitrary number of attributes
  • save data to xml or customized export
  • more
  1. Map Maker
  • build maps from tiles
  • use as many tilesets as you want
  • layer support
  • customizable grid settings
  • automated creation of tile transition layers
  • build maps from grafics
  • map generating algorithms
  • save data to xml or customized export

Comments welcome…

This looks very promising! I will take another look at it, when I need a tool like this.

My first impression is “I want to download it and give it a try” so how about it?

you need some type of image / screenshot for this thread or someone might remove it

Touch!

Did a small update.

Nicely done.

Minor thing that irks me (sorry), it’s Graphics, not Grafics.

Will this support export as .TMX?

I currently use Tiled, only thing I don’t like about it is having to run a batch file to package up my maps. Will you have an object layer with many customizable properties?

Looks promising though.

Looks awesome and well thought out, would definitely give it a go if I ever get around to making a isometric project X)

Looking good.
One question though, the screenshot appears to show isometric tiles but the grid overlay isn’t?

Does it have triangular or hexagonal grid support ?

I don’t see a download.

Can you rotate tiles? I’ve been making a world on something I smashed together for 6 months and its horrible, this looks much nicer!

Some Replies:

Screenshot: The map is made of Reiner Prokein Tileset (http://www.reinerstilesets.de/) which I used. It is indeed an ISO tileset, but I used rectangular tiles.

Grid:
Hex yes, Triangles - no

Download:
soon

Rotate:
Can not rotate tiles, but you can rotate grafics and create from them “new” tiles.
Can not see much advantages to rotate tiles.

Malban, in English it is Graphic not Grafic. Although the seem to sound the same, they are not. I know, I hate English too.

Ok ok!

I changed all found occurences of grafics to graphics :-)!

I am nearly done with the stuff I wanted for a first release.
Two things are left todo:
a) I have to wait for a permission to use one small library
b) have to finish handling composite tiles

Since last time I added:

  • Growing more sophisticated
  • Layers can be “joined”
  • did a small simple ISO map to test the ISO stuff
  • option for vertical and horizontal (or both) wrapping (per layer)
  • more information on layers are displayed (size in pixel / tiles)
  • Bugs removed (probably some added to!)

The documentation is also updated!

Malban

Hey, thanks. I was wondering about rotating because I like top-down tiles which can be rotated any way and look fine
