Poll: Game Development Team

Hehe… feel free to ask anything before voteing!

;D

Not true, the first program that I worked on at my current job netted my company $5 million and it was only a small subset of the entire application.

Anyway I voted that I would but that the money doesn’t matter. I am starting a software company with my friends now because I can’t imagine a group of people that I would rather work with. And they all have very well developed and varied skills that I hope will lead to our success! I can only hope that we will develop something that wil bring in $10 million!!!

I would vote for the money does not matter , as long as it is enough to put some bread on the table

Eh, Surely, money does matter in that if you don’t have commercial success, your company goes under. If your company is a startup, then you probably won’t get paid a lot to start with (but get a pile of shares). If the company does well, the shares increase in value & you are rewarded for all that hard work. However I agree that once you are earning enough to cover your chosen lifestyle, then money is less important and job satisfaction more so.

you can always buy frends!~

(no that wasn’t a serious comment)

I work in the corporate tech industry about as far from game development as you can get ( insurance ). I do it for the money and stability so I can support my wife and two young children with a comfortable ( but far from “excessive” lifestyle ). But every week I try to squeeze in a little more time with the design of my two game projects and some effort learning the technologies to bring them to some degree of life. Money is absolutely an issue, but I get more satisfaction making three hours of progress over the course of two weeks than I do with a month of time at “work”. I also involve a couple friends in some of my design and playstyle discussions since I value their input as gamers and thier honesty ( and their willingness to sign NDAs with me! ).

If I ever get things far enough along to offer up to investors as a starting point to bring in the right talents to finish the job and generate an income to support us around the level we’re at now, I would be the happiest little game-geek I know. $10 million would be very sweet. $1 million would be very sweet. A few hundred thousand would be very sweet. I’m not greedy.
