Destiny is a mix of pokemon mystery dungeon, and a multiplayer battle arena. Get your equipment and head on to the battlefield, get ready to fullfill your Destiny!

Enough with the cheesy introduction haha xD
Hey there!

My name is ZmSky, and I consider myself to be a beginner in game development.I am developing this project just to get more experience in game development, and as a programmer. What is destiny exactly? Well, ive always dreamed of a pokemon mystery dungeon game that allows to to battle in realtime. Seems like an awesome challenge to try and take on, not to mention fuuuuuun to develop XD I do the art, the programming and a bit of music. Alot of work for a single person, but that doesnt stop me. Motivation keeps me going :)

The game is completely online, and will require external servers for anyone to play. Of course, these servers will allow customization, an easy to use plugin api, and easy server management. The objective of the game will vary depending on the gamemodes the server supports. Developers will be able to use the destiny api to create custom gamemodes for their players, and non-developers will be able to download submited plugins from forums.

A map editor is also being developed, this will allow players to make their servers feel unique :D! The whole project will be open source, and will be completely free to play. Lets see where all this takes me!

Here is some early development content, and a video link to show off what I currently have! Be aware that the current content is bound to change throughout development.

Looks nice.

However I will raise the issue that I always do, copyright. If you intend to complete this and release it, despite it being free and open source Nintendo will still not be happy if it gets popular :p.

If it gets popular, you can always close it down. The problem is that it will probably not get popular.

I started to think that people who are just starting something out should never worry about things that popular people have. I see a lot of people on twitch with 100 page views who have this fancy FAQ section, even though with 100 page views, I doubt anyone has ever even left a message in chat asking something. They kinda assume that people want to know something, even though nobody gives a fuck.

Same here… Until your game gets popular, you got nothing to worry about.

In my time on this forum (over a year) I’ve seen a couple of these types of games. They never run into legal issues (probably because what Trollwarrior said), so it isn’t worth arguing with the OP about it :stuck_out_tongue:

Yeah, however, showing off with artwork by someone else (which is a huge part of a game) isn’t really “I do the art” as the OP says, and neither is making something “completely free to play” really sensible if youre “giving away” artwork thats not yours to begin with.

Art is hard, and developers hould respect that.

Anyway not to spoil all the fun, it looks like ZmSky has got some fun plans, so good luck with that!

Well if the OP drew these pokemon, whats the issue with him distributing it (Ehtically, not legally)? It is his art, not his idea, but still his artwork. (Unless it is stolen)

This game look very professional, and by the well orginized GUI, well though out post, and great idea, I wouldnt have guessed your new to game dev.

Best of luck.

I think the issue is art that resembles copy-righted art. Sure, you can draw your own Pokemon, that’s fine, but if the resemblance is still there then you might have issues with the company who made the art work first.

Yes agreed. Ive been here some time now and seen several games of this genre and they seem to get quite populart and never seem to run into legal issues, well non that they mention anyway  I thinks its worth you try sell it anyway mate, if you run into legal issues thats when you have to remove it. Anyway of the topic of law…

The game looks great and the RPG graphics are tremendous  Im curious to see how far this game goes into development but I hope it all works out ofr ya!

Dunno, I kind of assumed that the art was not drawn in pokemon style but actually ripped. “Running into legal issues” isnt the point here as far as I’m concerned. There’s many things you can get away with without “running into legal issues” that I’m not a fan of. ;D

Edit: Oh well, sorry for spoiling the party a bit… I said my thing now go make a great game and good luck!

Im aware of what might happen, and I will take it down If Im requested to. The experience ive earned on this project has already given me alot to work with in the future, so It wont matter If I have to let it go  Im pretty much doing this for fun and I dont believe destiny will get as popular. Of course, I´ll be happy if it does XD!

Ive actually been asked If I was the one that drew this haha xD
This specific drawing was both done by me and a friend of mine, I know alot better than to grab some random drawing on the internet and mash it into a game without due credit. Im an artist myself, so I know how it feels to get your artwork used without permission D; Bad feelings jumping all over haha :stuck_out_tongue:

And thanks XD! Lets see where this project takes me 8)!
