?
This shouldn’t be the case anymore in our latest demo:
http://dzzd.net/demo/ROAD3/
You should add a turbo boost ;D and maybe experiment with moving the camera down and back slightly in the process.
Cool demo though
did you try the lastest one ? http://demo.dzzd.net/ROAD3/ it is a lot brighter, isn’it ?
I think this would make the basis for a really fun game, are you planning to do that, or are you more interested in concentrating on the engine?
I couldn’t get the camera controls to work (tested using both FF and IE), it would be interesting to try with a camera closer to the car/ground, or even from inside the car.

thanks, first answer is both, I usually make such demo to see what is missing in the API, where I get stuck (lack of functionnalities), it help improve user needs, but yes I think a game will be bringed out from this, also as I plan to opensource the whole I have a lot of works to do, so I dont know about delay for opensourcing and game release. and as thijs said there will be a track editor too
for the camera this is normal, controls was only available in the very first demo that have been removed now, in the first demo camera was not linked to the car and you had to manually move it.
dont worry for testing different camera , It is planed to add more camera
You should add a turbo boost

that will maybe make the jump very very high, car will need wings
A bit, but not much. The ground is non-black at least but most of the ramps and car are still pretty much near-black on my system.

Ok you should be right, I will add some ambiant light and/or use lighter texture
EDIT: could you give me a mesure of you screen using the image below ? so I will see nearly exacly what you see
you may see a black square at the left of the above picture just give me it width in pixel.
mine is arround 25 wich is not so good…
Looks like a perfectly smooth gradient from black to white to me.
Could you post a screenshot from the game running on your config (+specs)?
lucky you, I can get that on mine :(, I have arround 20px maybe 1cm of black before gradiant and I can see most texture details even dark one.
The loader still needs work though - the pacifier gif is causing a flicker in the middle of the applet, right where the car is. Mac OS X Leopard / Safari 3.1.
bracken could you please do another try when you ve got some time ? I have made an update for the gif flickering issue that should fixe this
thnks, yep, I did not notice as maybe I was not enought ‘concentrating’ on that , you’re absolutly right most jump and the platform are too dark. strange that how you can not see something that is in front of you eyes. I update right now.
This is really cool, you’ve nearly got a racing game working!
I think the turning is a little too sudden and the camera should make it’s way to be directly behind the car rather than in a weird position when you do a turn.
Nice job!
thanks,
I think the turning is a little too sudden

some others people already told me about that but I am not sure/still doubt that I should really reduce it ? maybe with a better camera movment this will be less annoying ?
…and the camera should make it’s way to be directly behind…
yes you are right, I will update this point.
You should add a turbo boost

finally this seems to be a good idea, will be updated.
any other suggestions are welcome ?
bugs: there is still a bug on car rotation (when car front is pointing up to the sky) I found the reason and need to patch it. There are also some rendering issue in the 3D engine pointed out by kevglass that I will try to reduce/remove.
NB: maybe I will open a game web site/section (games.dzzd.net) dedicated to java game maybe this one will be the first one :), note that this should not be dedicated to game using 3DzzD and it will also be pointed by another domain name. I will try to keep quality & compatibilty as the only requierment to be published on it.
I did not have as much time as I would like to,but enought to make some few updates:
- the car bug rotation is now fixed
- lot more gravity
- camera is closer and less high
- car rotation/control should be improved
- I did some try with inside cam but it is not that fun, so I removed it
- A sky has been added
That is a lot of fun!
Are you planning to release it?
soo fun.
For driving upside down, untill you remove this, maybe use a car with a similar model found on rollcage
http://users.on.net/~bobjob/car.jpg
that way if it goes upside down looks like its ment to
Are you planning to release it?
Yes, I am currently thinking about a simple gameplay that can make it fully playable, and fixing some issue.

I will have a look to those models, but maybe I will simply disable upsidedown drive (autoflip car) after few second when it is upsidedown ?
DzzD,
I haven’t had much time to play the game but for the time I had I must say that it was quite fun!
Works correctly on XP with a crappy nvidia Quadro card at work. I love the sense of speed and physics! It’s just right. Do you intend to make the window bigger?
Quite fun now I can see where I’m going. ;D The “race track” level is more interesting to mess around on too. Any chance of a “proper” race track?
My only suggestion would be to make the car handling a little less drifty and make the camera follow a bit more tightly.
Ahh rollcage. The only thing I succeeded in rollcage was driving around tunnel walls to infinity
One thing that always bothered me was that it’s physically imposible to flip a car remaining it’s driving direction, since the wheels would then turn backwards…

:o Ho! That is a clever remark!
