How do I play AVI files/movies in LWJGL?

The same way you would using another OpenGL binding. Playing avi files is a lot of work to get right, and is not tied to LWJGL. Google might be your best bet.
I’m working on this right now, using Java Media Framework.
JMF is a great design, with a fecking poor implementation. Basically it doesn’t really work, and doesn’t let on why.

Exactly! It’s quite depressing really.
