Piles! The falling blocks

Well, since I had to cancel my site at MightyRealms due to budget restrictions, I have continued my adventures on my free site at TwelveToes!. My latest game is a falling blocks game called Piles, you can play it here.

Let me know what you think and tell me what kind of FPS you get. I was getting 180-190, 130 with the game paused.

Thanks for taking a gander!

Sorry, forgot to put up a screenshot…

It says 900fps! …I find that a little hard to believe.

Good game, bad name. Maybe call it something like… ummm… Tetris?

Hahahaha!

If you have a nice system with a good video card, why would 900 fps be hard to believe? My laptop is ancient with no video card and it almost gets 200 fps. Of course the algo that figures the fps is a very basic one… increment the framecount until 1 second passes, so it may be a couple off here and there, but it can still be used to measure different peoples rates.

As for calling it Tetris, I cant really do that since someone already used that name! ;D

Piles = piles of blocks, lol.

Thanks for checking it out and posting!

Rotation of L-shaped pieces seems to be off centre.

Preview of L pieces are inversed :stuck_out_tongue:

Thanks for the input, I fixed the preview inverted pieces. I understand that the pivots of the pieces may not match exactly with the original tetris version, I wasn’t too concerned with that, but thanks for the input.

So far my highest score is…

Thanks!

I get 900-1000 fps while playing, around 500 while paused.

How do you restart the game after losing? Pressing SPACE just seem sto pause and un-pause the “Game Over” screen. Pressing Esc throws an exception (you can’t call System.exit from an Applet).

To restart the game, just hit your browser refresh button. I’ll take a look at the escape key thing. Thanks for the heads up.
