Parasites - Multiplayer Java Game

Hey everyone,

I am a student of the University of Applied Sciences Stuttgart, Germany and right now I am at the end of my 6th Semester.
Over the course of the semester, me and 11 fellow students had to concept, develop and implement a multiplayer game written in Java.
So, after some long months, we finally released our first real version (and received some good grades for it  ) and right now, some of us are thinking about further developing it in our own spare time. Although players are a bit rare right now, (we didnt really publish it outside of our university yet) we really would love to get some feedback from you guys on the game.

The game idea is based a bit on Galcon, it’s for 2-4 players, written in Java and JOGL is used for the graphics.
Basically, every player starts with one cell of his own on the map and your goal is to conquer the enemy cells and kill their viruses. To do that, you can start to conquer the neutral cells first, so you have more cells where your viruses can replicate and/or you can overtake the artefact-cells which give special bonuses to the viruses inside of them. There are 3 in total:

Strength - makes the viruses inside more stronger (so you kill more of the enemies when you send viruses from that cell to another)
Defence - makes em tougher, so you will lose quite less viruses when the enemy attacks this cell
Speed - makes your viruses “swim” faster and also has a higher replication-rate than other cells

Well, that’s it in a nutshell. It’s a pretty fast game and matches last only a few minutes, but i think it’s quite fun, although it may need some more balancing on some parts ^^

Hi Redeagle,

you game looks really nice. I just played with the editor (you may enable the OS look&feel though).

Keep up the good work.

Cheers
boto

You should add some sort of basic bot. Since a lot of the time there won’t be anyone on if someone is looking at the game. With a bot you can at least get a feel for it.

Just from the screencaps, I have to say the graphics on this must have been worth a good part of your grade. Seriously, this looks realy smooth and sci-fi!

Web Launch wont work on this computer for some reason  … I’ll have a go when I get home.

It remembers me something :stuck_out_tongue:

Registration is a bit reluctant to try it. Is there a guest account ?

hehe, thanks for the replys.

Ya, a bot would be nice, but we had only 3 months time for the game so we concentrated on the essential features first  maybe in the future though…

Well, there isnt really a guest account, although you can try the one we used for testing: log and pass is aa
Registration is only really needed for the ranking and the email address is used if you lost your pw… so if you dont wanna give it away just use aa@aa.com or something
