Paradroidz webpage

After choosing a name for my Paradroid remake (=Paradroidz), i made a very basic website for it with some information about the game, its origin and some links.
It can be found here: http://www.jpct.net/paradroidz/
Comments on the site (don’t be too harsh…) and of course the game are welcome.

width=“800”

Make that 759. There shouldn’t be scrollbars in 800x600 (and the layout doesn’t require that anyways).

Layout with tables is so 1999

Make the stylesheet external. It’s like half of the source.

Oh and a doctype is missing… and character encoding…

See?

And the game… looks like you put alot of effort into it. Title sceen, selecting decks, explosions… :o

Need to check it out first ;D

Quite the improvement

Some things in random order:
-there is no loading indicator (except the jws console)
-the menu lacks mouse support (quite irritating)
-the option point does nothing (I know you know that ;))
-the arrow has filtering seams (there should be some free pixels around it)
-it’s odd that the arrow can partial dive into walls (I know it’s “correct”, but you don’t expect that hud elements to do such things)
-the “light off” mode could be a tad brighter

The game itself ran very well (500mhz/gf2mx always 75-1XX fps).

Hm… I’m wondering how the line of sight thing could be visually improved. The current “plopping” doesn’t do any good to the athmosphere and people who don’t know about it would think it’s a bug. :-/

Hey Egon Olsen !!! Lækkert med andre danskere på boardet

You’re right…i’ll change that.

Yes and yes…that’s because i’m lazy. Even if the page may not look like it, i’m doing web related stuff the whole day at work…after the years, i got so sick of it, that i’m just rushing my personal stuff together.

Yep, i’ll add that…

The line of sight problem is a problem for sure, but one that i don’t have a solution for ATM. On the other hand, it’s not different in the classic game except that it’s 2D and i haven’t got any complaints about it except on this board…so maybe it’s not that much of a problem…!?
About the arrow…it’s a jpeg and it has from alpha-artifacts due to the compression and the way jPCT handles transparency in OpenGL. I have to change it to a gif and the problem will be gone. I once made the arrow collide with the walls to avoid that it disappears…sounds nice but looked bad and distracting. I think i’ll leave it the way it is for now.
Mouse support for the menu: You are right, i should add that.
Thanks for testing.

I’m sorry to disappoint you, but i’m not danish. I can read it though but i’m not. But i’ve been in denmark a few times for the holidays…

hah

Danskeren: Both me and Elias are danish - and there are probably others lurking about… At least one called ‘vredungmand’ or something like that

Nice game!
Do you intend to sell it ?

I only tried it for 3 mins (at work) - the only comments I’ll make for now is:

 • Missing loader
 • Title music
 • Ingame music (just some ambient sound)
 • perhaps polish the puzzles so that it’s more 3d’ish ?
 • Looks and plays great!

It’s really good! I played it for quite a while  I’d buy it for a tenner for sure. But while we’re on the subject of remakes… why not add a few more guns, robots and special effects that weren’t present in the original? A straight remake is a bit… well, I’ve got Freedroid  It’d be nice to have a few tweaks.

At the very least the disruptor needs to make an appearance. And I always wanted to lay mines.

Cas

msg too long wtf ???

Maintainance… uhm. I’ll email you instead.

I like the idea of dropping mines as much as i like the idea that killed robots may drop some energy or points or whatever. I’ll put these ideas on my list. For the time being, i just try to get the straight remake done and after that, i’ll think about adding things like these.
It already plays a lot different from Freedroid IMHO, because the gameplay is much faster. And you can shoot doors to open them…that may not sound like a great thing but you get used to it quickly.
The next thing on my list is to implement the alert status followed by an online highscore table.

A blast ring has been added…it’s much more easy to add special effects than to come up with some reasonable textures for the level…

The loading indicator is cool, but I’m not sure if there should be a space infront of the quotes or not (can’t remember).

Having the arrow rotate around the antenna is ok methinks.

The blast ring is cool

Mines! Disruptors! Mines! Disruptors!

Cas

The last screenshot is really nice!

I can remember.: It doesn’t matter. Well, actually it does matter speedwise. Using a lot of spaces and/or remarks slowed the C64’s basic interpreter down because of the additional work it had to do… ;D
Mines! Disruptors! Mines! Disruptors!
As you wish… ;D…disruptors are in. The 711 and the 742 are armed with them. You can find some on the bridge (one up from the starting deck) or a few decks below…the effect is basically a modified blast ring for now.

Hurrah!!!
Er, you did remember to shield the 420 and 821, right?

Cas

Not yet. Problem is, that the document i based my droids on doesn’t seem to be correct in all cases…there is no word about the 420 and the 821 being shielded. I’ll change that soon. For now, only droids carrying a disruptor themselves are shielded.

All hail Lord EgonOlsen.

This is by far the best single player game I have seen written in java so far. Sure its not technologically ground breaking, but my god is it fun to play!

Just one thing…i can never seem to win at transfers! It seems that I have no skill in the matter! :’(

Oh, and the start dialogue’s options could be moved to the option’s menu instead. It would look more professional.

Actually, this is the only java game i have a shortcut of on my desktop!

Congrats!
