how do i open a file say for instance a .pdf with adobe acrobate(if installed) from java

To open the file using Adobe Acrobat you have to use Runtime.exec(…) with the right arguments.

Yes! Sorry, I wasn’t paying attention. Runtime.exec("") if you have Adobe Acrobat installed.

There are also some Java libraries available that can read and display PDF documents. Go to:
