I’m new around here, I have no idea if I’m posting in the right place, but I desperately need to figure this out, as I have a deadline rapidly approaching.
I’ve seen a lot of people mention ATI vid cards and updating the drivers. Problem: my program worked fine BEFORE I upgraded, and after I downloaded the new catalyst drivers, it’s pretty much unusable. It is S-L-O-W… like 2 minutes to register a mouse-click. Never did that before, even on my older computer.
Tried it on another computer in the house, worked fine until I needed to update it’s graphics driver for another game. Bang, there goes my application again. I ended up uninstalling the new drivers on one of the computers and going back to factory-install, which is NOT working well with the other programs on the comp.
Here’s the stats:
One computer is a 650 MHz AMD running Windows 2000, with an ATI Radeon 9200 vid card and 600-something MB of RAM. Runs brand new, top-of-the-line games okay (DirectX) - not great, but okay - but can’t run my little OpenGL application now.
The other computer is a 2.x GHz Pentium running Windows XP Home with an ATI Radeon 7000 vid card and I think 512 MB of RAM.
I’ve installed and uninstalled, there is DEFINITELY a problem with the new drivers. I don’t know if it’s my code that’s messed up - but then why would it run on all the computers in the college, and run on these ones before the update? Didn’t touch anything else, just the graphics.
Also, a seperate issue (I think, but who really knows at this point), now on the 2.x GHz computer (the one I uninstalled the updated drivers), I am now getting random EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION errors:
An unexpected exception has been detected in native code outside the VM.
Unexpected Signal : EXCEPTION_ACCESS_VIOLATION occurred at PC=0x692210F4
Function=DllMain+0x3BC4
Library=C:\WINDOWS\system32\atioglxx.dll
So yeah. Any help would be much, much appreciated. I’m pulling out all my hair here.
