Hi There
I haven’t been in a long long time, but I think
this was the site that had a wicked isometric Java
example available for download. Anyone
know where I can get this?
Thx in advance

I’ve never tried it myself, but I believe you’re talking about “Scroller”. You can still reach some parts of the old site, and Scroller is found on this page:

Well, MSIE just wiped my reply with no undo :(. But in summary, that isometric thing isn’t worth downloading - it’s hard-coded to run stuff from f:\somewhere, and there’s no packaging, no instructions, and lots of duplicate files and rubbish like that.
Princec’s file on the same page is quite good, but sadly yet-another-windows-only affair.
Yeah, getting Scroller to run is more than a tad tricky. However if you’re interested in that style of graphics then have a look for “Isometric Game Programming (with DirectX 7)”. Jeff apparently used it as a reference while making Scroller, and i’ve got the book myself - its got lots of good stuff in it (and not really as tied to DX as the title suggests).
I could get it to run on Linux too ya know But only on Nvidia
One day shaders will abound and it’ll all be nice and simple. But that’ll be 10 years from now.
