Old Forum Stuff

I’m kinda curious about the history of the forums. I think this is the first post ever on modern day JGO (http://www.java-gaming.org/topics/welcome-to-the-new-forum/2/msg/2/view.html) but looking at that thread tells me that there was a different JGO before this one? Riven or any old member, could you shine some light on this?

Also, it looks like ChrisM used to be the owner before he gave it to Riven.

Woo, I was 5 years old in 2001, wow!

My earliest memories date back to then…

Oh my, I was only two months back then!

This topic was discussed a couple of years back as well

The first link under the ‘Friends of JGO’ section is a link to EA’s website. :persecutioncomplex:

Thanks guys. I’m sure some of this is a little nostalgic for you

I started the forum in 2001, ran it until 2010 and was able to get the rights from Oracle and gift it to the community. Riven has been a exceptional forum manager and this community will always hold a special place in my heart

I was 2!

If I may, what issues was there between this community forum and Oracle?

None, other than they acquired all of Sun’s assets and this was one of them. Oracle granted me the URL and permissions around the community. I transferred them to Riven and the community.

HES BACK!

 Can never REALLY leave…right? Lurk a lot these days, so glad to see the site, and the community, still rolling along!

You should post more often, it’s nice to have the original owner back, unlike that dodgy Riven character! :stuck_out_tongue:

Yes, where’s ChrisM at the top of JGO’s most awesome members? I mean, Markus? Where would Minecraft have got without JGO?! :stuck_out_tongue:

Ahaha, thanks! But no need. Just happy to do/have done my part!

Thanks for your bug report!

Now take a bow, please.

Awwww…you guys are making me smile here! Riven, you have done such an amazing job in building out the forums and maintaining the community. Hard to believe that I started down this path in 1998…leading to JGO in 2001. Thank you, and to all of the members of this community, that have worked to keep it growing
