well, no. Its OctTree because it stands for Octal Tree (meaning tree with 8 children)

I know, what it stands for :). But in Wikipedia it is OcTree. Maybe they have the wrong name, don’t know.

And the winner is…

OcTree
Some people really have spare time ;D. However… Shouldn’t we rename OctTree to OcTree in JOODE then?
Marvin
just because google has more hits for octree doesn’t make it right. Google “Oct tree” then google “Oc tree” and see which are more relevant.
In anycase, they are both synonymous for the same thing
DP
I don’t think googling for “Oct tree” and “OctTree” resp. “Oc tree” and “OcTree” is the same thing. “OctTree” or “OcTree” is the description for this data structure. So “Oct tree” or “Oc tree” cannot give the same results.
This is definitely right.

My personal opinion is that:
octtree looks odd when all lower case, because of the double t. Which is why I presume they named it octree.
OcTree looks wrong when using capitol delimination. The oct semantics seem to dissapear.
So when using Java naming conventions I prefer OctTree
Octrees are the three-dimensional analog of quadtrees. The name is formed from oct + tree, and normally written “octree”, not “octtree”.
hence the NAME is OctTree - but in writing its octree - now lock this thread down hard :-X
