O RLY

Somebody ignorant of SMFs inefficiencies, decided to post a link to JGO on a busy forum, which almost grinded the server to a halt.

To reduce the traffic, here is a silly countdown for you guys to watch: [countdown]1329767255[/countdown]. All is fine now, thanks for the patience.

What’s it counting down to o_O

Also it could have been this: http://www.mojang.com/2012/02/20/how-to-use-the-catacomb-snatch-source-code/ (down near the bottom of the post)

Oddly enough, mojang.com doesn’t show up in the top referers.

Damn, Jens Bergensten, that will keep the server busy for weeks!

Shout out good. Traffic bad >_<

Can anyone do a countdown? Countdown -> [countdown]1329767255[/countdown]s
EDIT: cool

The javascript generating the countdown doesn’t work (yet) in preview mode… :persecutioncomplex:

Ya I noticed, cool new feature anyway. Dunno what it would be used for x) I don’t know I this can be avoided but on my phone the timer pulls the page down when it updates, if the timer is offscreen.

What is the use of this countdown?

Also, im afraid of this jens posting the link of JGO. Now new people might come :persecutioncomplex:.

@Z-Man: :clue: Do you mean the page is scrolled every second? (it updates every second…) or did you mean that when you update the preview of your post, it scrolls down? The latter can be explained, as upon loading a countdown, I do a nasty document.write(""), which might trigger the scrolling (?), I will convert that to some DOM manipulation.

It is used in the header, to countdown to the Java4K deadline. It updates once per second, which is rather silly, but once we approach the deadline, it will be more specific.

@Riven: when the timers tick (every second) the view shifts so you can see the timer. At least on my iPhone.

EDIT: Now it’s just moving to the bottom of the page every second

Counter GO!
[countdown]1346889600[/countdown]
This counter is set to my birthday. Please check it every day to make sure you don’t forget about my birthday. Thank you.

FYI: i didn’t modify anything. So as there is a countdown on every page (the header), it would scroll, all the time, making this forum unusable.

I just grabbed the iphone of my dad, and i didn’t have the problem you described…

Countdown for when time collapses into itself: [countdown]1356069600[/countdown]
or maybe nothing happens… again.

Hmm… don’t know why it was just my phone. Assuming your talking about the “Java4k - 8 days to go” header at the top, I think that it’s not a problem because it isn’t changing every second. The only reason the timers that were running in this thread were doing it is because the text was changing as the seconds ticked down. At least… I think that’s why x) only because now that the timers on this page have expired it’s no longer moving down to the bottom of the page. Perhaps it’s the text changing and not the actual timer?

The top post (mine) has a countdown that hasn’t expired yet. (countdowns are not affected by timezones)

Your very first post in this thread? It has expired for me. It says “Deadline expired.” where the countdown used to be.

Oops, the caching layer is really playing tricks on trivial functionality here

(fixed)

It still says “Deadline expired.s.” for me

And what happened? What did you set the countdown timer for?

Ofcourse it’s still expired, it’s just that it’s expired for everybody.

Those who clicked right in the middle of the O of ‘JGO’ in the logo, got access to the vault. A few of you are now in round 2.

Round 2?
