NVIDIA popup blocker?

To attempt to fix a ddhelp crash that WMP9 has introduced to my system, I’m updating my graphics drivers. Does anyone else think it a bit odd that one of the features of the latest NVIDIA drivers (56.64) is an IE popup blocker?

I think I’d prefer it if companies weren’t trying to bundle the kitchen sink with everything they ship these days. I have to wonder how much of the money I pay for a graphics card actually pays for the “free” copy of a game I’m not interested in and will never install. :-/

Everybody’s complaining to MS about bundling software and suing them for monopolizing…haven’t heard anything about NVIDIA being targeted for that yet. :wink:

It’s the reason I’m sticking to the 53.03 drivers. Pop-up blocker?! What the hell are they thinking of? I dunno, maybe they are running out of ideas to compete with ATI. Sounds desperate to me.

The latest nVidia drivers made my system behave weird (video got blurry, or stretched 3 times as wide as my monitor while maintaining the same number of pixels; i.e. pixels got 3 times too wide) or even crash as soon as I opened a web page with either flash or an applet on it, or when I open the J2ME emulator of the J2ME dev kit. Most jws games didn’t work again as well.
Rolled back to older drivers anyway, which are stable but don’t show all games correctly.

After reading this topic, the only thing I can comment on this is:

nVidia: never again for me! My Ti4200 is really the worst video board I ever had. :frowning:

I’d love to agree with you, but unfortunately I have the 56.64 drivers installed, and there really does seem to be an IE popup blocker in there. If it is an April fool, they’ve really pushed the boat out this time.

I’ve enabled it and would love to try it out, but since these days I use Mozilla and Firebird exclusively, I have no idea which sites use popups anymore! ::slight_smile:

If anyone wants to point me at a popup-infested website, I’ll be glad to try it out for you.

Well, after a bit more research, the IE popup blocker definitely seems to exist, but is so buggy that on my machine all it does is leave rogue rundll32 processes around.

I seriously think it is both real and here to stay, but it’s still a very odd utility to bundle with graphics drivers. :-/

Edit: And after a tiny little bit more research, it’s possible that it only works with IE6.0. With my IE5.0 it’s not only not working, it’s actually crashing the nView software…

I stand corrected, even though I find it hard to believe they would think it was a good idea to add that to the drivers.
