Numerus [Android and applet]

Hello everyone!

I would like to introduce my first java game which is as well my first android game called Numerus. It is an abstract strategy game played on chessboard with very original game mechanisms. Here are some images:

It is something different than most of the games posted here, which are action/arcade games. If you make such game the biggest challenge is probably the graphics. If you make a game like Numerus, it is more about the game mechanics and of course the AI. But that doesn’t mean graphics are completely irrelevant so I did my best to make it also look good.

Those of you, who like such games as chess, checkers or go should definitely give it a try. Here are the links:

Applet version is playable on our fresh new website: http://www.numerus-game.com/play-now/
Android version is available at google play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=numerus.gui
Rules are included in the Android version. If you are going to play the apllet version, read the rules here: http://www.numerus-game.com/rules-of-the-game/

Have fun!
I am looking forwad for any feedback.

I probably should have read the rules first. Initially I thought it was like an odd game of Go. However, it’s a rather interest game and design. The only issue that I have is that the music annoys me (Personal opinion), but I always forgot about that a few seconds in (And it’s easily disabled).

I should say that I’m trying it on an Android and haven’t had any issues yet.

I downloaded it yesterday and played against the computer on easy. I must say that the game has a nice concept and gameplay. It is definitely more difficult than the average board game, and I haven’t been able to win even a single game, yet!

It’s a quite promising game, and I will keep playing it.

Thanks for the feedback. Do you think that I should make the easy difficulty easier?

Easy is pretty much always beatable in 3 steps, so I think that’s a good challenge.

I’d either improve the loading times with a lot (for such a simple game it shouldn’t take more than a second to go from the menu to the game board), or add loading screens.

There is also a problem that the redraw only happens when something changes, so when the applet goes into “sleep mode” when for example being minimized it never comes back.

Thanks for the tips.

In the new update (1.1) I have added a loading screen (it takes some time to load all the images and I can’t do anything about that :frowning: ). The problem with redrawing screen after minimizing is also fixed.

I have reduced dificulty of easy and normal AI as well, because more people told me that they are little bit frustrated about the fact, they can’t beat even the easiest difficulty. And I don’t want to discourage any players at the beginning. However hard and very hard remained the same for those who are looking for some challenge.

Btw, what do you think about the new sounds in this update?
